Who has visited Dénia this summer?

November 19 from 2020 - 10: 15

The summer season has already ended two months ago and although it was received with uncertainty and fear, the truth is that a large part of the tourism sector agrees that it was a more than positive summer. Now, with some differences from the previous ones.

Entrepreneurs saw people, neighbors saw people and the City Council, based on the data on garbage collection and water consumption, "saw" people. But, yes, many of the visitors were not those that we used to.

And this is confirmed by the National Institute of Statistics that has made public the result of a mobility study that has been carried out analyzing the movements of mobile phones in this second semester, specifically during July 18 and August 15.

The foreign visitor fell. The closure of borders and the strict sanitary measures greatly limited the movements between countries, something that was noticed in the tourist municipalities. However, this loss in Dénia was compensated with a greater flow of interior visitors.

The INE study shows that the majority of Spanish tourists came this summer from Madrid and Valencia, Dénia being one of the preferred destinations for 2020 in the latter capital. The capital of the Marina Alta has strengthened this visitor and, at the same time, has served as a claim for more of these destinations to be encouraged to spend a few days in our beaches and streets.

Of course, at the expense of Alicante. From our own province hardly any visitors were received. And not only that, but many of the residents of Dénia those days, whether they were neighbors or visitors, preferred to go to neighboring beaches than to stay in the city, especially to Gandia, as the aforementioned study shows.

If it is true that summer has been very different, with little foreigners and a lot of domestic tourism. That is why the train that connects Denia with Gandía to access Valencia is of vital importance. I still do not understand how a town that has a port to connect with Ibiza is not capable of having a train that connects with Valencia or Alicante and does not take 3 hours. The Mediterranean corridor is essential. Fast trains that connect the interior tourism with the coast. It's easier for me to go to Ibiza from Gandía than from Denia, and I think it's something that Balearia and the Denia leaders should rethink. This virus is going to stay, and it is possible that other pandemics will come where foreign tourists do not come. Let us facilitate tourism for all Spaniards with an effective and efficient means of transport.

Apart from what Arana has written, we must add: improve the collection of rainwater, currently a disaster, urgently replace the accesses for the disabled, plant trees in streets that do not have shade in summer, for example: Calle de la Vía. the tram goes on at once. We are like Castellon Airport. We have a beautiful station but we don't have trains.

I would love for there to be a train in Dénia. As in other locations. It is necessary. I have been this summer in that magnificent city. Each time I like it more. Especially people, every year it costs me more to return. And it's already nine years. As long as possible I will return.

  3. Arana says:

I am a tourist from the North who has been coming to Denia for several years during the spring and summer. Indeed, foreigners have not come. I think they are very important for the city's trade.
I want to remind the authorities how important we are, as a whole, for the life of this city.
and take us into more consideration. Do not raise taxes and put more cleaning in the streets and urbanizations in the first km of Les Marines.
