Dénia is still looking for the economic model of the city that will reign in the coming years. The urban debate continues on the table, and this week have come to light interesting proposals by employers to achieve the desired goal of deseasonalizing tourism in the city, the main economic engine in Dénia.
In this sense, during the debate organized by the City Council in Municipal House of Culture, the president of CEDMA, Sonja Dietz, explained that what is really detected within the PGE is the commitment to an economic model based on Tourism, "a diversified tourism, but it is still tourism".
The document that is now on public display speaks of deseasonalization through economic diversification, but, nevertheless, does not include an extension of industrial land. Therefore, the president of the Cercle proposed several alternatives to achieve this goal.
Among them, he stressed that a clear commitment should be made to digitization in order to attract technology companies; geriatric centers that meet the demand of European residents with high purchasing power, for which there would already be interested investors; or a university campus that would allow continued use of empty homes also in winter. About this last he recalled that the International University Center of Gastronomy, announced by the regional secretary Francesc Colomer for Dénia, could be an answer.
Other issues that were debated were the viability of the PGE's commitment to agriculture; the lack of structural networks both in Les Rotes as in the Montgo; or the economic viability of the park road.
The debate about the future of the city of Dénia will remain open until at least the public exhibition of the General Plan, and the next 12 in December there will be a new participatory workshop in the Captaincy building of the Marina de Denia, where the economic feasibility and the possibility of patrimonial responsibilities derived from the future entry into force of the PGE will be studied.
