Plaza de la Fontanella: the before and after of another space that adds Dénia to its neighbors

10 2019 April - 12: 55

It is called a place, but until now it has not been a practice. The Plaza del Fontanella, at the end of the Esplanade Cervantes, has been the object, in recent months, of some remodeling works. And now, when the works are about to end, is when this space has become what it should be: a square with space to walk, sit and enjoy a corner of the port of Dénia.

The remodeling works, financed by the Diputación de Alicante, have included this square and Fontanella Street, one of the most historic claims of the neighbors.

What used to be a parking lot for vehicles, has become a square with a wide pavement that has six opposite banks, litter bins and underground containers. In addition, the road has been asphalted for the circulation of vehicles and tree stands have been installed to plant trees.

The refurbishment work on Fontanella Street started in May of 2017, but they had to be paralyzed due to a failure in the initial project, since there were sewage channeling elements that were not included in the work plan.

After solving the problems, in September 2018 the works that will turn the street into a pedestrian road were resumed. The works are being carried out by the company Tecopsa SA with a budget of 785.000 euros charged to the Provincial Council of Alicante.
