Paseo del Saladar will lose a large percentage of its parking spaces

02 October 2021 - 09: 20

One of the main objectives of the Dénia government team is to promote coexistence in the streets by recovering spaces for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles. The latter, for the moment, is still a great pending issue, since cycling through Dénia must use, yes or yes, the same road as motorized vehicles through a very brief and disconnected network of cycle lanes.

In fact, the City Council of Dénia, as announced this week, has set a series of goals to meet in this area during the next 6 years. In addition to the reduction of speed in the main areas of the city, the elimination of a large number of parking spaces to widen the sidewalks stands out.

In the first phase of this strategy, the one that will see the light, it is assumed, sooner, it is already intended to finish with more than a quarter of the parking spaces of the Paseo del Saladar.

This road is one of the ones that currently has more parking in Dénia, being also relatively close to the center and all services. In the same way, it has great space for pedestrians thanks to its central promenade. Despite all this, it will be among the first to reduce its parking spaces to create more space for people.

Specifically, parking will be prohibited along an entire sidewalk, from Plaza Jaume I to Manuel Latur.

La Pintor Llorens street It is another one that will lose a large number of spaces, eliminating all the parking spaces that are made in the center of the road. In the same way, battery parking will become a cordon, which will give more space for circulation and will considerably reduce the available parking spaces.

    have they already done it?

  2. Lizzie says:

That the center is to be enjoyed and a formidable pedestrian. First of all, it would be necessary more parking very close to the center and especially more minibuses in extradition with more schedules. Many people would surely leave their car at home if there was a more adequate "navet" service. People have to get used to leaving their car at home if they can take a minibus every 20 minutes, and little by little they will understand that it is the best solution. And dream of small electric transport to take whoever wishes from the car parks to the lungs of the city.

Totally true ... see how I bring my mother to the fields street to the oculist. You can not park or circulate ... I put it around my neck ????

    • Xavi says:

That's what public transport (taxi) is for. Whoever buys a car (I have a car) should know that parking on the street is not a right.

  4. Antonio says:

There are people who have their private parking under their house and during the day they do not use it and park where they see fit, occupying public roads, this also had to be controlled, parking in your place and reducing the traffic tax.
In Switzerland there are localities that do control this situation.

  5. Xavi says:

In all European countries the pedestrianization of cities is advancing, but some Spaniards do not take it for granted and intend to continue poisoning the air and occupying public space with their scrap metal on wheels.

Ah, that they float in the air and are never, but never, pedestrians. They're just junk drivers. When they leave her, they float and enter her house through the balcony.

They are the same ones that park on the sidewalks or in the crosswalks, because they are worth it. A few weeks ago I saw how 3 cars blocked a bus stop in another town on the coast. Its occupants went to have vermouth at a nearby bar. The bus is the one that goes to a Hospital and could not lower the platform for people with disabilities and the elderly.

I called the local police and they fined them all. There is no right for these people to do whatever they want with the public space as if it were their farmhouse.

I have lived in Denia for the past 2 years and whilst l'm all for pesdestrianization Denia is playing at it - Marqes de Campo for pedestrians? yes but also allows scooters and bikes !! - stupid Also roads crossing it why not close them off easy to re-route EVER heard of »PARK AND RIDE» plenty of spaces on boundary of Denia I think it's time for the council to stop trning to stop vehicles entering / parking without having a viable alternative Denia at the present is very busy and they want more tourists - not many people walk to Denia !! and never will

  6. Peter says:

  7. I xelo says:

A possible solution so that the citizens of Denia can park, especially in summer, would be to put a badge on the cars for all residents registered in Denia, so that we could park throughout the city.
This exists in many cities in this country for example in Benidorm and would allow us to park throughout the municipality without problems.
Visitors would have to park in designated areas or in car parks.
I think it would be fair.

    • Pepa says:

Sounds like a good solution to me. It is true that in many cities they do it, one of them is also San Sebastián, an exemplary city in many aspects

  8. Caroline says:

I'm pleased to see that Denia is taking the reallocation of street space seriously. Too long cities and towns have been designed around vehicles and not people. It does take some getting used to and there does need to be investment in public transport as well.

  9. martina says:

Well, that they consider eliminating the Traffic Tax on cars, since it will be impossible to use it ...
    It would be fair.

  10. Luis says:

Prepared for summer traffic jams, they can limit the number of parking spaces but not the volume of traffic driving around like crazy looking for parking.

    • rsc81 says:

And more pollution, since the cars will be going around more looking for a place to park. It can also be thought that in the center, small establishments will have to close because many older people will not be able to reach these establishments and will prefer to go to other nearby towns.

  11. Ana Maria Martinez says:

And because they do not also make parking lots so that you can access the city!

    • Luis says:

There is the issue but they do not talk about it, neither about it nor about public transport.

    • Alfonso says:

Denia is already like Spain in general. The government or city council does not work to satisfy the needs of the citizens, but rather the citizens have to adapt to the whims, manias and ideologies of the new feudal lords, that is, the politicians.
Is there a lot of citizens who have demanded more pedestrian space? Well no,
Are there many citizens who have demanded easier parking? Well, every day.
What has the council resolved? Well, no fucking case to citizens and they to theirs, thinking that most citizens think like them.
Taking advantage of the years of power that they have left to impose their Personal criteria.
