Opinion Mari Martínez: «Citizens with refugees»

11 September 2015 - 08: 22

The situation of Syrian refugees is Europe's biggest humanitarian crisis since World War II. Tens of thousands of people trying to escape the war raging across the Mediterranean Middle East to seek refuge in Europe.

Civil society has turned to this drama. A drama that politicians cannot and should not ignore. Of course, with responsibility and good sense.

Mari Martínez - councilor in the city of Dénia

This past week I have read in the press that the current government of the City of Dénia said follow in the footsteps of other municipalities in the region and expressed his willingness to join the network of refuge cities. A decision that I share. For me, solidarity is a basic principle of
coexistence. Necessary for progress. However, solidarity without planning generates uncertainty and is not a lasting solution.

agreed action plan, involving all political parties, social partners and associations in preparation for the reception of refugees and measures reasentamiento.Toda initiative at local or regional level should have the necessary support, leadership is needed and coordination of central government authorities and autonomous. No well-developed cooperation between the institutions or inefficient coordination may jeopardize the effectiveness of aid and pose a risk to the final integration of refugees.

In my opinion, our town can and should participate in helping refugees. Coordinate their responses to the autonomous region and the central government, with flexibility criteria that guarantee equal treatment for people.
