La Fundació Baleària Friday closes its cycle of conferences on the environment with the presentation of Núria Marbà Efectes del canvi climàtic on the marine biodiversitat of the Mediterrani, which will take place on Friday 17 at 20 hours at Casa de la Paraula, at the facilities of Baleària Port (The Harbour District).

Marbà is a researcher in the Institut Mediterrani d'Estudis Avançats (IMEDEA), the research center attached to the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the University of the Balearic Islands. Author of more than 70 publications, her work on the ecology of marine plants has made her one of the main scientific references on climate change in Spain.

Marbà will explain the consequences of rising temperatures in the Mediterranean Sea, whose waters are warming between two and three times faster than the oceans. This thermal alteration is transforming the map of marine biodiversity, raising the mortality of native species of the sea and favoring the adaptation of organisms better adapted to warm waters, largely from other latitudes. In this context, CO2 thermal and emission forecasts anticipate a profound change in marine flora and fauna with unpredictable consequences.

The conference of Marbà puts an end to the cycle 'Medi Ambient' of the Fundació Baleària, which in recent months has offered the opportunity to meet in Baleària Port the latest news about the potential effects of climate change in the Valencian Community, through experts in the field such as Jorge Olcina (Universitat d'Alacant) and Rodolfo Canet ( Valencian Institute of Agrarian Research). The cycle has been coordinated by the biologist and employer of the Fundació Baleària Miguel Ángel Civera.

This programming takes place within the framework of Baleària's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, including climate action. Through its connection to these principles, the shipping company has activated various actions to help mitigate the socio-environmental, economic and cultural problem derived from thermal change.
