New restrictions in the Valencian Community: the curfew is brought forward at 22:00 and the hotel business will close at 17:00

January 05 from 2021 - 13: 31

The President of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, and the Minister of Health, Ana Barceló, have announced the new restriction measures to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, which with its third wave is leaving the worst scenario since last March in the Community.

"The evolution of the pandemic has led us to a serious situation. It requires a strong and immediate response", the president announced at the beginning of his appearance. Before making the new measures public, Puig assured that the vaccination process will be intensified, that health products are guaranteed at least to cover the needs of the next 2 years and that the situation of the hospitals, although it is increasingly worrying , is still far from saturation.

In addition, the Generalitat is also committed to continuing the school year with the same restrictions, so that the boys and girls will return to the classrooms on January 7 as planned to date.

Now, new restriction measures have also been announced that will affect, above all, the leisure time of Valencians and will come into force at 00:00 on January 7. They are the following 6:

  • The perimeter confinement of the community is extended until January 31.
  • The curfew is advanced until 22:00.
  • Hospitality: the closing of these businesses is anticipated at 17:00 p.m., when there should be no customer inside the premises or on their terraces. Smoking is prohibited in the spaces allowed up to now, in the outdoor spaces, and the tables must be for a maximum of 4 people.
  • Businesses now have a capacity of 30% (to date it was 50%) including in spaces for parking. There will be exceptions in food businesses, pharmacies, hairdressers, veterinarians and opticians, which will remain at 50%.
  • Social gatherings keep their limit to 6 participants maximum.
  • 26 municipalities that the Generalitat has considered to have a critical incidence will be confined, none of them belonging to the Marina Alta.
