Life in the Dénia of the Middle Ages is far away, but thanks to excavations and remnants of history, we can make a mental picture of what the city and its inhabitants were like back then. But how was death in the city?

Next Sunday, December 10, at 10:30 a.m., the Archaeological Museum of Dénia proposes the tasting of a drink of Dénia history in the castle through a guided tour with an outdoor lecture by the archaeologist Josep Gisbert. The meeting point will be the entrance of the Castle, next to the Consell tower.

It is a visit with expert guide to know a very special space of the castle. The place where the moat was and where a large part of the inhabitants and citizens of Dénia were buried between the beginning of the 14th century and in 1708, although it was eventually used as a funerary space also during the 18th century: the moat of La Vila, the moat of the Vila Vella or the Basset cemetery.

We will also visit the space where the main church of Dénia was, dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady and a surprising novelty will be presented regarding archaeological research in this place. In the temple, the funerary vessels such as the Roser glass or the glass of San Pedro, among others, rested the remains of the members of the brotherhoods who enjoyed more devotion in the town and city of Dénia during middle age and age modern, while at the foot of the altars were buried the most distinguished families who cured and showed the patronage. They will know what we know about these and other questions that history keeps us regarding death in Dénia.
