More than 200 volunteers collect half a ton of waste on the Dénia coast

18 October 2022 - 10: 58

On Sunday, October 16, the clean-up day "Per a net sea" took place on the coast in Les Rotes, the breakwaters of the port of Dénia and the beaches from Punta Raset and Delivery Notes. The 226 volunteers, including citizens and staff from collaborating companies, collected around 500 kilograms of waste.

The closing of the day took place in the vicinity of the Port of Dénia, where diplomas were distributed, in addition to brooms made with the plastic collected in the previous edition, to all the people involved in the cleaning.

The day was used to present the recycled scrap sculpture made by the Fallas artist Rafa Cheli for the event: a native Mediterranean fish (Thalassoma turkey) 3 meters high by 4,5 meters long, with a width of about one meter forty. Cheli spoke about the importance of environmental awareness. According to the Dianense artist, "showing the waste for everyone to see is a way of impacting the public, even more so if they blend in with the ecosystem" (in this case, the marine biodiversity of the Mediterranean).

The Councilor for Ecological Transition, Mait Pérez Conejero, thanked the involvement and commitment of the volunteers and companies to make the cleanup event possible.

  2. Victor Perez says:

Two days ago I was in the nudist cove of les rotes and it didn't take me 5 minutes to fill a garbage bag with the remains of cans, butts and other containers that were there, unfortunately I couldn't collect everything since there are quite dangerous and inaccessible.
    Anyway….. Good job the volunteers

  3. Rudi says:

The free plastic brooms will achieve what the volunteers tried to avoid:
They will produce micro plastic during use.
Things must be thought with all their consequences.
