More than 2.000 families of the Marina Alta live from the nautical sector

The recreational boating sector continues to claim its importance in the region of La Marina Alta. According to the latest known data, more than 2.000 families in the region live from this sector, which already accounts for almost 5% of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the area.

In addition, according to professionals in the sector, each job generated by their companies has an impact on the creation of seven indirect jobs. They also emphasize that it is about year-round jobs, without firing workers during the winter.

These statements were made last Wednesday, in the course of the meeting held by the companies of the nautical sector of the Marina Alta in the facilities of the Puerto Deportivo Marina de Denia. The president of the Association of Ports and Sports of the Valencian Community, Gabriel Martínez, assured that "Marina Alta is an area of relevance in recreational boating".

The central theme of this meeting was the project of the new Site of Community Importance (SCI), which aims to regulate a series of uses of maritime space framed from the Arenal beach Xàbia to the Cap d'Or of Moraira.

In this regard, Gabriel Martínez pointed out a fact that must be fundamental when launching the LIC and is that the fleet that sails in this area does not exceed eight meters in length, "They are boats that do not generate a negative impact on the posidonia". In addition, they are ships that remain here throughout the year "very different from what happens in Formentera, whose fleet has a seasonality of two months and a much higher length".

According to recent scientific studies, "Our waters and coastal funds enjoy extraordinary health, so the proposed SCI comes to try to solve a non-existent problem, unnecessarily endangering the well-being of more than 2.000 families and generate damage to many other sectors that are influenced by nautical Let us be prudent, study the effects of this initiative carefully and we will reflect on everyone as the consequences can be irreparable. "added Martinez.

The LICs are managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment. But the Marina Alta has been considered, by the Ministry itself, as an exception and therefore has hired an external company to prepare a report. A series of participatory workshops are being held and in July this French company must have finished the report for, in the month of August, present the allegations to it.
