Next Thursday 21 Dénia will host the 9 Marathon Donation of Blood, an appointment that this year has made a special appeal to the boys and girls who have just reached the age of majority and who, for the first time, can donate blood.
And is that from the Blood Transfusion Center in Alicante have found that there is a significant lack of young donors, especially from 25 to 35 years. That is why in addition to encouraging the new donors, have appealed to all those donors who, for one reason or another, this year can not collaborate. They are asked to encourage someone to collaborate in this celebration of solidarity and life.
This event, which has become a classic of the autumnal calendar in Denia, is one of the most important for the Transfusion Center in Alicante. Its representatives, Paca Ferrer and Salvador Perez, praised the solidarity of the Dianans, which is increasing every year, both in the marathon and in the calls made at the Hospital or in health centers.
In this regard, they recalled that last year 213 blood units were obtained during the marathon, an amount sufficient to cover the blood needs in the province's hospitals for a whole day. It should be noted that this number grows year after year in Denia, so that from the Transfusion Center they trust to exceed the number of donors and blood units of 2016. In addition this year, as motivation and thanks, they will deliver bracelets of sounding to those who participate in this event solidarity.
The 9º Blood Donation Marathon is possible thanks to the collaboration of the Dénia City Council, Red Cross, Marina Salud, the Fundació Baleària, Appliances Pineda and Radio Denia.
Donors will be able to go to the Denia Social Center of 9: 45 to 14: 00 and of 16: 30 to 21: 00 hours.
Procedure for Blood Donation
Those who come to donate blood will interview first with health professionals, who will study the situation of each donor. They will then go to the stretcher and for about 7 minutes the blood will be removed. At the end, they will be given liquids and a snack to be replenished after the donation.
Requirements for donating blood
Blood donors should have between 18 and 65 years and weigh more than 60 kilos. They must go to the appointment with their ID or identification document and drink plenty of water before the donation. Also remember that it is important to have eaten and never participate fasting.
Women can donate up to three times a year, and men up to four. In both cases, it is recommended to rest a minimum period of two months between donations.
From the Blood Transfusion Center, they also encourage those who have doubts about whether or not they can donate for reasons such as medication being taken, having recently been tattooed or having pierced. Once there health professionals will inform you of the possibilities.
