Since his arrival in Dénia in the 1990 year from Ontinyent, Manolo Viciano It has not gone unnoticed by the Dianense society. It came as basketball coach in a city that captivated him. After 26 years. Viciano, remains a benchmark not only the sport of the basket but the sport in general.

What Dénia has to enganchase him to settle there?

I arrived at the right place at the right time. I moved here in this city occupationally and my daughters were born. Its people are very open and I like that, in fact, dismiss sporting options to move from here as athletically here I'm fine.

Has basketball changed a lot since you arrived?

Obviously a lot has changed. At that time the engine was the senior club team. The quarry began to be formed from children. Now, people start playing basketball since elementary school, come from Benjamin. This means that people now start playing 6 years before it was done then. The current level is much higher and the revolution of the sport has been tremendous. I think the Dianense basketball is on the right track thanks to the grassroots work. Now we are among the best youth clubs have of Valencia, and this is reflected in the results.

Does the team 92-93 season played the phase of ascent to 1ª B in Bilbao has been the best he has coached?

There is no doubt that this season we had a great squad. At that stage we did not get in the best conditions and pressure gripped us. But as players I think are the best I've directed.

Do you keep good memories of what was experienced in the ascent phase EBA organized in Dénia?

Of course, that was another phase of the good times experienced by the club, got to be runners-up and obtained the square rise, was the 97-98 season. It was a great season in which the audience that filled every game sporting pavilion with the team.

Is the commitment to the quarry came because of the economic crisis was in the club?

This is natural, has passed in most cities, especially in our area. The money was found in a timely moment with ease and sporting ambition to be at high levels led to Gandia, Denia and Calpe to bow down to make great teams and compete professionally. This is good but as long as not shelve basketball promotion and that was the big mistake. Now we work to reach that level but from a solid base and a well-worked quarry.

What you brought when he began to direct the quarry of Dénia Basketball?

Basketball has few things to invent, the reality is that we must be clear that everything starts from the base, I learned when I was fortunate to work in Valencia, first a college and then a club where that was the priority . There he started from mini basketball and that was what I brought to Dénia Basketball Club. It is especially vital to have a lot of patience, 10 years and now we begin to see results. A few years ago it was unthinkable that they should come here to play equipod first level, which is very normal today.

What is your best moment in sporting lived in Dénia?

Anyone, I am happy with everything that I've had moments that can boast as results accompanied. I have had others where he knew what he was doing but things did not work out, were hard times. I'll take the experiences that I shared with managers, players, coaches, media, all have treated me so phenomenal.

What caused his disenchantment with basketball to leave for a while?

In the year 1999 many things came together; many sports pressure with a personal and family time when you had to spend a few hours with my family. This was accompanied by an economic level that forced the club to do many miracles to be where we were. I ended up getting tired and I chose to take a break, I thought it was going to be short and never raised me to return.

What brought rowing to your life?

Much. Especially to value sport in its purest form. The rowing at that time was a balm where I found lovely people and absolutely delivered. It is a sport that does not allow scavenging or stinginess, or you are or are not. I was helped and at the same time I helped them, they needed a person with boards in the sport and I think we did something that I am very proud and grateful for. There I won some friends forever.

It has been more recognized for his sporting work outside Dénia here?

If I worked for someone to give me thanks or assess what I do, you'd be wrong. I think in Dénia has also been valued me and if they have not, for me that's not important. I do not say with false modesty, I say it because it's the truth. Those things come when you have to come and not to be thought of if someone has thanked you or not.

Your challenge is to regain the love of basketball this city had?

Of course, if all goes paired, you must have a quarry with a solid base of people who practice basketball. Once these people leave the game must create a social network of support for the sport both good times he has given them. People should return to basketball as partners, sponsors and be glad to see that his people are still playing this sport.

Would you be a good sports council to Dénia?

I have never considered that option. I have been in some political formation and collaborated with different councilors who have passed, as with some parties, I know the sports dynamics of the city. If that possibility comes, it will be because it has to come, but not because I want that door to open.
