Volunteer mothers promote breastfeeding among first-time mothers admitted to the Hospital de Dénia

17 July 2018 - 09: 25

A group of five volunteer mothers belonging to the NGO Grup Nodrissa have started a project in the Hospital de Dénia to promote breastfeeding among the mothers who enter the center.

During the first 24-48 hours of life of babies, which is the most vulnerable time for the establishment of breastfeeding, these voluntary mothers trained in breastfeeding explain to first-time mothers tricks, techniques and tips that facilitate the initiation of breastfeeding.

The advice of Grup Nodrissa is carried out three days a week in the evenings in the hospital rooms, where the volunteers of the NGO address those mothers who want to breastfeed their babies to inform them and resolve their doubts.

In this edition, two volunteer mothers have been trained in breastfeeding in FEDALMA (Spanish Federation of Breastfeeding Associations) thanks to the collaboration of Marina Salud that has subsidized the course. This cooperation represents another step in the commitment of marine health to the promotion of breastfeeding.
