"Exceptional moments such as the current one show us that, in the fight against a global pandemic like that of COVID-19, all our municipalities need reinforcements, also extraordinary, to guarantee that the most vulnerable groups are not irreversibly affected". This has been the central idea of the proposal made to the socialist group of the Alicante Provincial Council by the deputy for the Marina Alta and councilor to the Dénia City Council, Óscar Mengual.
His approach, supported by the socialist group in the County Council, opened the way because finally, last Wednesday, the Plenum of the provincial institution approved a new line of aid, endowed with 2 million euros, for municipalities with more than 30.000 inhabitants; "some subsidies that give air and are a very important contribution - in the case of Dénia, for example, of € 150.000 - for municipal social services, also at the forefront of this battle against COVID-19", Mengual has pointed out.
The plenary agreement also includes new aid for municipalities with a lower population and commonwealths and achieved unanimity from all political groups.
