The forgotten remains of the Sacred Heart

January 24 from 2012 - 00: 00

Between Nursing Home St. Lucia and the Alpha and Omega College, surrounded by grass and fenced goes unnoticed what once crowned the top of Dénia Castle: The monument Sacred heart.

The year 1926, following the work of the priest of the Church of the Assumption, D. Pedro Cardona and Gonzalo, creator Board Erectora Sacred Heart of Jesus, the first stone of the monument was placed at the top of the castle, which is now known as Concourse Governor.

Dianenses crowd gathered on 3 1927 May at the opening of this spectacular figure, visible from all points of the city. Don Manuel Carrasco Rueda, chronicler of the city of Denia, has in his writings that the designer was Mr. Salvador Rubio, professor of Fine Arts in Valencia, and had a small chapel and altar on which there was a tabernacle. Outwardly it was very simple, predominating the Gothic art. Eucharistic pious acts and other acts witnessed from the outer concourse. Montgó looking at the pedestal on which reigned image of the Sacred Heart was placed. There were two bells announcing religious services and reflectors that the first Friday of the month and on certain dates illuminated the figure.

But in early August 1936, during the Civil War, dynamite ended the spectacular monument, leaving shattered on the floor, where he remained until 1974 when, with the intention to restore the top of the Castle before arrival Sacred Heart, he was moved to the courtyard of the newly opened school of the Carmelite Sisters for in the future, rebuild on site. But finally the project was not carried out and the remains of the Sacred Heart were transferred one land located between the residence of Saint Lucia and the current school Alpha and Omega, where today can intuit.

And we say sense because the state of the stones is unfortunate, surrounded by wild grasses and moss among trees and other rocks that make almost imperceptible distinguish what was once something so big. Even many of those who now govern us, unaware that these pieces were there, giving them missing since the years 80.

Perhaps time to return these stones greatness because, regardless of the beliefs of each, it is a monument of almost a century of life was a major achievement for the residents of Denia, who collected money for its construction has come .

Much of the information described here has been taken from an article that the teacher of the Marist school Vicente Martí Domínguez wrote for the book of the Brotherhood of the Holy Blood in 2011.

From denia.com we would like to thank the Municipal Arxiu for his collaboration, especially the late Joan Carles, who helped us with 2012 with his follow-up and help when it came time to reconnect with the monument.

To Vicent Balaguer for his advice, to the Alpha and Omega school for allowing us to access his facilities to photograph the remains and the members of the Facebook group "Dénia Antiga", who keep alive the memory of that other Dénia, thanks to those born our curiosity to investigate the current state of the monument.

Very interesting article and photos are great. Congratulations to all the authors and those who have done the job.
If only all problems were fixed and hopefully one day soon we can enjoy the restored image, and that image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus reflects the love and mercy of God to all, so that no one can or should feel offended. Today more than ever we need that love and that mercy without measure.
The story is beautiful: all the people together to make an image that is a symbol of divine love, and though the image suffers destruction by intolerance and misunderstanding about, the stones have been preserved with the possibility of restoring it. It would be great to do it, and it would be the best work of reconciliation to heal the wounds that remain.

Great job. Although ¨tirado¨en knew it was a place that does not belong, now I have sated my deep curiosity about the heart of Jesus, so often seen in the Castle, on the ground and calling our attention when we were small.
I would like to know, if mr. Piterpank, is a supporter of the history of the City of Denia, or on the contrary, he believes, using his lexicon, that it is bullshit and is to shit. To say that you do not agree with this work, much less with the recovery or restoration of the monument, it is not necessary to be a little disrespectful. Many of us don't "smoke."
I understand that at present there are many needs and would not be appropriate now retrieve and reposition the monument, but perhaps a little later. Safe arrived the day you can do. Note ud. well in the picture where we can see the Heart of Jesus in the highest part of our Castle of Denia. It is downright fantastic. One more thing, we live and we are in Denia and has no need to frame it, it is unique and wonderful, unframed.
    Greetings.

In the opinio meua hauria to restore i-lo-lo dalt I pose the novament castell.

  6. PITERPANK says:

Anonymous, you ……. Don't you smoke?

  7. Anonymous says:

Yes Yes. Clearly Dénia has many debts, there are a thousand things badly, but from my perspective the report does not seek the offense of one, but the recoder to each of the real dianeses where they are and what is the artistic and cultural past that before he enveloped the city. Everyone should know who is and know the legacy that we have today. Demand culture, and then there are those who complain of such a brilliant story that, far from trying to hide the real debts of the city, try to throw some light on the true cultural root that has Dénia and which today should be proud if certain monuments as recited in that article was not in the condition in which it is. It seems incredible that the capital of the region is so far from giving an example of culture and art is one of the oldest cities in Spain and having a history and geographical position as it has.
I repeat, do not think the story look for something as mundane as spending money, but to involve all the memory of the wealth that had Dénia and today or in a few years, when there is someone in the legal council for such great deeds and provide Dénia what you deserve in every way, then rebuild the Sacred Heart as Dianense cultural symbol.

  8. Sanguan says:

if they go for something it would be ...

  9. Obdulia says:

The Sacred Heart, like so many and so many other things, are part of history and memory. That it recovers, that it be restored… .etc… etc… I think it is a job and a challenge for the artists who may be involved.
But now dedicate the times, with the debts that our council, with basic needs in many sectors, our society lacks Dianense them.
I find it an offense to most citizens of Denia in which I include myself, think about spending, even if only one euro to recover the monument.
There are many other things necessities in itself should take into consideration and take urgent measures to address them.

  10. PITERPANK says:

Yes of course and that they put it back where it was, right? how much bullshit is read here. With the lack of doing things of the first order and necessary and having to see comments like the ones here. And the spectacular report we go, something never seen, tears come to my eyes and everything reading it, and the thing about "La Pepa" saying that she is going to study that she recovers is already to shit, we live in a city to frame. Aiiiiii mare !!!!!

  11. yomismo says:

Now that you know that it is in a specific place, let it rest there until things are better and the city council is dedicated to paying what it owes, that there are many people who have financial difficulties due to the debts that the city council carries (contracted people, suppliers …)

  12. AHA says:

I think with the needs and cuts get there today to recover this is a sovereign stupidity.

  13. the cat says:

Great job, and now you have that document the authorities should get down to and No work waste a minute and replenish all possible pieces in place it should never go out at the top of the castle, esperomos make this happen by good of Denia.
