The main changes of the new Dénia school year

09 September 2022 - 10: 36

The 2022/2023 academic year begins on Monday, September 12 and, as every year, the Dénia City Council has taken advantage of the summer school holidays to carry out maintenance work on public centers and ensure that the facilities are in optimal conditions to receive the student body.

Among the actions carried out, the creation of a 'White Classroom' at the Raquel Payà special education school stands out. This resource consists of the provision of a safe and protected space where students, in moments of overstimulation, can go to relax and let off steam. The White Classroom will be installed in the current center library.

Works have also been carried out to improve the accessibility of the centres. This is the case of the Cervantes school, in which an adapted toilet has been created and the doors of the infant classrooms have been changed to adapt them to the needs of the students.

energy saving

The two schools that during the 2021/2022 academic year adhered to the "50/50 School Energy Plan" project in order to reduce energy consumption in their facilities, the Llebeig and the Pou de la Muntanya, will also start the academic year with the actions that they decided to implement to achieve the finalized objectives.

In the case of the Llebeig school, the panels and lights in the corridors and classrooms have been changed to LED technology, with an investment of 3.486 euros. In the Pou de la Muntanya, the reimbursement of energy savings from last year, amounting to 1.790 euros, has been allocated to the installation of low-consumption fans in the classrooms.

The "School Energy Plan 50/50" is an initiative launched by the City Council of Dénia based on the European project Euronet 50/50 Max, whose main objectives are to reduce energy consumption in educational centers, obtain economic resources derived from savings to invest them in the centers, increase information and training on the subject of energy and its responsible use, promote a change of habits throughout the educational community and achieve greater participation in decision-making related to energy.

Initially, the Dénia City Council's commitment was to reimburse the participating centers for 50% of the economic savings they achieved during the course, but finally, to support the initiative and encourage participation, they have returned 100%.
In the course that is now beginning, two other centers are joining the project: Cervantes and Les Vessanes; and the Llebeig and the Pou de la Muntanya continue to participate.

Building Plan Works

Regarding the works for the improvement and construction of educational infrastructures financed with funds from the Building Plan of the Department of Education, the new course begins with the construction works of the Infant classroom and the new gymnasium of the Pou de la Muntanya underway. According to the Councilor for Territory, Maria Josep Ripoll, is scheduled to end in November.

This action will allow all the students of the center to be grouped in the same school and free up the facilities of the current El Rodat school, which will be used to create the city's Fester Space.

At the IES Historiador Chabàs, the rehabilitation and improvement works are stopped while a modified project is drawn up to correct some errors detected in the initial one. At the end of the process, the work will resume before the end of the year.

The extension and rehabilitation of the IES Maria Ibars, however, will not be able to be undertaken until next year, Ripoll has indicated, since the company awarded the works alleges that with the rise in prices, the cost stipulated in the contract "does not block". "Now we have to resolve the contract and put the works out to tender again," added the councillor.

The fourth planned action with the Edificant Plan is the construction of the new Raquel Payá special education school. The project has already been presented to the center's management team, who have asked to include some small changes. The forecast is to have the definitive project finished this September and put the works out to tender so that they can start next year.
