The poor need most: one in five dianenses is at risk of social exclusion

"The needy need more". This statement by Antonio Calero, association stretch out your hand, summarizes the balance that they make the year 2014 in terms of social aid.

Last year this association, belonging to the Bureau, assisted a total of 1851 people through social room, child breakfast, food delivery, counseling, workshops and medicines. This total represents a decrease of more than 500 people, but as explained from the association, although users have decreased, there is a greater need among those who come for help.

And, taking as a reference the last report of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), of the 5 million inhabitants of the Valencian Community, one and a half million live at risk of social exclusion, and of those, one million are at severe risk. Some data that are also reflected in Dénia, where they say that the need is pressing.

Since the creation of the Bureau are four entities responsible for distributing food, so the number has also lessened partly because they are more associations to distribute.

The profile of the beneficiary

The average profile of the beneficiary of the services of the association is a man of Spanish nationality 40 54 to years is unemployed.

Significant fact, while worrying is the number of children and young people who attend the daily breakfast, established in an average of 28 daily people who receive a glass of milk, bread and pastries for breakfast, and a sandwich and a juice to take in the school or institute.

The other side of the coin

The other side of the coin are the entities and individuals that collaborate, either with donations or through volunteering. In recent months, thanks to the collaboration of the Fundació Baleària and La Caixa, the association has been able to reform the social dining kitchen to transform it into an industrial kitchen and install an elevator makes easier the arrival of food to the dining room.

In addition, every week receive bread from a bakery Dianense, which donates about 12 kilos of bread and pastries weekly. Also, the Mercat Municipal works every Friday supplying the soup kitchen in large quantities.

A particular level, as well as volunteers who manage every sector of association, women of the Evangelical Church collaborate preparing desserts each week, plus spontaneous collaborations and people linked or not to the church.

To thank the collaboration of all the people and entities that collaborate with the association, a thank you dinner will take place next Friday, March 6 at 21:XNUMX p.m. at Alfa & Omega School.
