Kitesurfers from Marina El Portet de Dénia participate in the European Kitefoil Championship in Gran Canarias

22 December 2020 - 00: 09

The athletes of Marina El Portet de Dénia have participated in the first European Kitefoil Championship from December 16 to 20 in Gran Canarias.

The Valencian Álex Climent and the dianenses Sebastián Ducos and Kiko Peiró have achieved good results in a complex event, because in this first European Kitefoil Championship about 60 participants of more than 15 nationalities gathered at Las Burras Beach. Climent finished eighth in the absolute category.

The Valencian recognizes that “Times are being complicated due to the health issue. Everything has changed and that is reducing concentration and training, despite this we have to keep going and fight for the 2024 Paris Olympics ”.

Meanwhile, Sebastián Ducos was sixth in juniors and 19 in the general classification. His teammate Kiko Peiró got the seventh place in juniors and finished number twenty-two in the general. The two dianenses are having a magnificent progression with respect to the tests disputed last year and both know that they have on the table the option of representing Spain in the Olympics, so they insist and agree that "We will not lower our guard."

The Gran Canaria Kitefoil European Championship has been the only sporting event of the European World Series in 2020, given that due to the Covid-19 pandemic no world championship of this class has been held.

The test did not have an audience and was broadcast on Streaming on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December to comply with the protocols established to prevent contagion by Covid-19, also ensuring the safety of the competitors and the entire organization.

The next sporting event that kitesurfers prepare is scheduled for the month of February, at which time the Spanish Championship will take place within the framework of the Olympic Week in Alicante.
