On the occasion of the celebration of World Bird Day, Dénia prepared a complete program that brought together a hundred people over the weekend of the 5 to the 7 in October.
On Friday, October 5, they were held in the Interpretation Center of the Montgó natural park Family workshops with the aim of knowing the birds that surround us. Nest boxes were made for scops owl, tawny owl and eyelids. In addition, bird feeders and other games were made. The day concluded by releasing a specimen of tawny owl (Strix aluco) on the Plain of San Jerónimo at sunset. The sample was in the Recovery Center of Santa Faz (Alicante) and came from Dénia. The BirdLife SEO bander and member of other environmental associations Toni Zaragozí was in charge of making the experience possible.
On October 6, a guided ornithological route was carried out through the Plana de San Jerónimo, in the Montgó Natural Park, to discover the forest birds it houses, with the collaboration of Joan Sala, president of the Governing Board of the Montgó NP. The participants were able to enjoy the flight of the peregrine falcons, the red-billed chough and the common kestrel and the songs of myths, kings, wren and chickadees.
To end the days, on Sunday 7 in October, a visit to the Marjal de Pego-Oliva natural park was scheduled at the most spectacular moment of the year, in the middle of the migratory season, when the rice fields are overflowing with life. There was a session of scientific ringing of birds in charge of the banders of Aranzadi Jesus Alfonso, Jorge Vázquez and Agustín López. Among the catches of the morning, we can highlight the bluethroat nightingale, goldfinch, common reed warbler and the bastard nightingale, among other species. Likewise, the release of a copy of a booted eagle was witnessed (Aquila pennata), thanks to the collaboration of the Conselleria d'Agricultura, Medi Ambient, Canvi Climàtic and Desenvolupament Rural.
