The works of a pool discover a andalusí street in the center of Dénia

It was suspected that there might be urban layout and construction of a pool have confirmed imagined: the origin of the road network andalusí the historical center of Dénia.

It all started when the English couple Bailey, owners of a house on Main Street, 23, began the construction of a pool in the inner courtyard of their house. Being a historic center housing are required to perform previous archaeological excavations, and thus discovered the road layout of the Dénia S.XII.

It is a street about 2'2 meters wide located parallel between the streets Mayor and Pare Pere in which you can see a channel that demonstrates the collection of water in the second half of the twelfth century. This discovery places the urban planning of the Islamic medina as a result of planning.

During the archaeological works have also discovered the remains of an Andalusian house of which you can see the paved floor, a latrine and a cistern to store water. In addition they have appeared materials of domestic use as a lamp of dry rope and the rest of what could be the oldest Dénia toy: a ceramic horse with which the children of the house would play nine centuries ago.

The work has been led by archaeologist Josep Marqués and presented by the Councilor for Culture, Pepa FontAnd the municipal archaeologist, Josep Gisbert.
