Women take over the Dénia stage: this is the musical program for May

Women with musical styles ranging from pop, flamenco, classical music or traditional Valencian singing come together in Dénia in the 'Dona i Música' cycle. Each of the four participating artists will perform on a Friday in May at the Social Center, at 20:00 p.m.

The cycle will be opened by María Bertomeu, the maryplatforms, Friday May 5, with the presentation of his album of traditional Valencian music L'Assumpció. His musical proposal has been defined as transgressive regarding the genre and unclassifiable. With musical training anchored at the Oliva music school since he was 6 years old and specializing in Valencian singing from the José Manuel Izquierdo Professional Conservatory of Catarroja, with Xavier de Bétera as a teacher, La María offers an opportunity to understand the Valencian musical tradition so in a different way. She is part of a new batch of artists who assume tradition as the best tool for innovation.

El viernes 12, it will be the turn of the fusion of flamenco and blockmusic with influences of hip hop, jazz, neosoul and new urban music with the group labadu. Its leader is Pastora Andrade, singer and bassist born in Algeciras in 1989 into a family of musicians/musicians. She is she is accompanied by Juanma Montoya on guitar, Josué Ronkío on bass and David Bao on drums. The formation has collaborated with artists such as Ketama, Jorge Pardo, Pepe Bao or Kiki Morente.

The next appointment will be on viernes 19, with the singer Esther, which will present her second album, Les cartes que mai vaig cremar, a pop proposal where the young singer-songwriter explores new sounds and reaffirms herself as one of the freshest and most current voices of pop in Valencian. A record that navigates between the intimate pop of Kodaline, Juditt Neddermann or Retama with the fresh and magnetic energy of artists like Miley Cyrus.

The cycle will close viernes 26 the musical and theatrical proposal Deixa'm dir, a show focused on the vindication of women in the world of music. The cast is made up of the soprano Consuelo Hueso, the pianist Renata Casero and the performers of the Casulana Quintet; all under the stage direction of Alabama Laura Salido to stage the musical works of the composers Sonia Megías, Ángeles López Artiga, Matilde Salvador, María Teresa Oller, Consuelo Colomer, Sara Galiana and Mercé Torrents.
