The Conselleria de Sanidad Universal y Salud Pública plans to finish the administration of the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 in the homes of the elderly and people with functional diversity in the Valencian Community at the beginning of next week. The second dose will be supplied from January 21 in these centers, as contemplated in the vaccination program against COVID-19.
Thus, the work plan designed by Health is complied with so that people who reside or work in centers for the elderly and in residences for people with functional diversity have received the first dose in the first fortnight of January, as confirmed by the Minister of Health Universal and Public Health, Ana Barceló, at the end of the meeting held this Monday with the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, to assess the current situation of the pandemic.
Ana Barceló has conveyed to the president that, as planned, "Between Monday and Tuesday of next week, the first dose of the vaccine will have been administered to all residents and workers of senior centers".
In addition, vaccination will be extended from next week to Primary Care, where doses will be distributed to vaccinate health professionals. Health personnel are part of the second group of vaccination against COVID-19, and will receive the vaccine according to the availability of doses. "As soon as the Moderna vaccine is authorized and its distribution begins, it will begin to vaccinate health personnel in hospitals", added Barceló.
Until then, Pfizer is committed to delivering around 30.000 doses weekly. By provinces, this is the distribution: Alicante, 10.000 doses; Castellón, 5.000 and Valencia, 16.000. Fulfilling that commitment, this week 30.000 new doses have been received.
The Valencian Community began vaccination against the coronavirus on Sunday, December 27, with 775 doses of the Pfizer vaccine in seven nursing homes. Since then, the program has been developing normally.
