Culture will once again liven up the months of July and August in Dénia. "After last year's attempt, in which we organized a program adapted to the circumstances of the pandemic that had to be suspended or modified due to the evolution of the incidence, this year we do hope to be able to recover a certain cultural normality," said the Councilor for Culture, Raúl García de la Reina.

"This year we try again," said the head of Culture of Dénia optimistic for the new summer in a more favorable situation compared to last year, with a stable incidence and the vaccination process quite accelerated. For this reason, Dénia has opted in 2021 for a more complete agenda according to the restrictions, in order to "support the sector and demonstrate that the culture is safe."

Of course, he stressed, "taking into account that we continue in a pandemic and that security and organizational measures must be maintained." The first, the centralization of a good part of the activities in the Torrecremada gardens, "a safe, very accessible and spacious space, with well defined entrances and exits", where the traditional jazz festival was already taking place. The current capacity is 212 people, expandable up to 500 if the current health regulations allow it when the time comes.

This summer, Torrecremada will also host the Festival of Traditional and Popular Music, which is temporarily leaving the castle and the Plaza del Consell, to be held again after the obligatory break in 2020. On July 16, 17, 23, 24 and 30, at 22.30:XNUMX p.m., the five scheduled performances will take place, following the usual format, two free, dedicated to local and Valencian musicians, and another three with admission.

The Dénia Jazz Festival will take over in the month of August. The appointments will be on Thursdays 5, 12, 19 and 26 and the poster will be announced shortly and tickets and season tickets will be on sale.

And the musical novelty of the summer will be the Sonafilm, to which Dénia joins with a free concert, on August 20, by the group of Valencian musicians Moaning Project dedicated to mythical soundtracks.

Cinema and exhibitions

The Vora Mar Cinema also returns. From 22 p.m., the beach of the Punta del Raset It will become a summer cinema to offer viewers seven films for family audiences: on Sundays July 18 and 25, and August 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

And on September 4 and 5, the cinema will return to the Torrecremada gardens with the Riurau Film Festival.

For art lovers, the House of Culture and the Station Art Center will remain open with a wide range of cultural exhibitions and the Joan Castejón Art Space, in the House of Culture, "will be open for the first time in summer."

Another artistic activity that the current situation has allowed to reissue is the Rapid Painting Contest, which will be held on June 13 in emblematic spaces of Dénia with the historic center and the port.

In short, "22 events in 52 days, which is not bad at all to slowly recover cultural normality in our city."

Events postponed for one more year

"Unfortunately, other regular appointments on the summer cultural calendar will have to wait another year," explained the councilor. This is the case of the Cantada d'Havaneres, the cycle Música a les Bassetes and the Mostra Internacional de Dansa Folklòrica, which due to their characteristics, space needs and special connection to the traditional place of celebration (the port of Dénia, the park of les Bassetes and Plaça del Consell) will have to be postponed until next summer.
