The Platform 'Obrim el Center' of Dénia presents different measures to return the opening of the urban center

23 December 2020 - 06: 52

The platform affected by the closure of the center of Dénia 'Obrim el Center' has presented, by registration at the City Hall, a manifesto in which it proposes different measures to return the previous activity to the urban center of Dénia.

As indicated in the letter, the measures taken, "quickly", by the government team to adapt to the recommendations of the health authorities in the context of the current pandemic, "They have left the center of Dénia in an unprotected situation".

Those affected point out that "the closure and inaccessibility of the Calle Marques de Campo, for the first time in the history of Dénia we have joined neighbors, merchants, owners, hoteliers, Mercat Municipal, professionals and associations that share our common space in the center of the city, and we have created the Platform for People Affected by the Closure of the Center of Dénia 'Obrim el Center', which already adds 449 formal adhesions of people and entities included in said groups ".

The Platform states in the letter that "We have nothing to object to the fact that in an emergency, as has been the case, certain difficult decisions will be made within the framework of a temporary situation and work will begin on a municipal plan to fight the pandemic. However, in the face of the unexpected extension of the state of alarm, which was justified by the 'extreme urgency' has become an arbitrary, discretionary, unilateral action, with random grounds and contradictory responses from our municipal officials ".

Faced with this situation, from the Affected Platform 'Obrim el Center' they propose:

  • • Opening of Calle Marqués de Campo including the entrance through Pare Pere and Glorieta, with a band of circulation. In the summer months it can be closed as it had been until February 2020.
  • • Regularization of the occupation of the public road by tables and chairs, limitation of the surface so that the pedestrian has more space.
  • • Prioritization of residents' access to their homes and parking lots.
  • • Reorganization of traffic and loading and unloading areas.
  • • Search for new public car parks, such as El Rodat or La Cantera del Castle, among others.
  • • Improvement in the permanent lighting of public roads.
  • • Increased digitization of shops and businesses, better coordination by themselves of the commercial activity in the area.
  • • Increase in complementary activities and street entertainment: cultural, artistic, etc. There is no public cultural space on Calle Marqués de Campo.
  • • Improvement of the Municipal Market based on a consensual project (not only lighting, flooring and individual improvements).
  • • Deepening the implementation of the home delivery service for purchases.

this Obrin el center platform must evolve once and for all. BE CREATIVE. You are a minority. All of us do not have an economic interest. Imagine, we just want to breathe!

All civilized cities where people concerned about the environment live have access to their urban centers closed. It is not true that by driving on a street like Marquès de Campo, consumption is higher in shops. There are many of us who do not want to live in a constantly clogged and polluted center. You can get there earlier on foot than by car. Before, you had to go around and around until you could park. Now the access to the shops is much more comfortable and clean. YOU DON'T WANT A POLLUTED CENTER. Gentlemen! Life is changing. ADAPT Your business to the new times.

The vast majority of the population supports changes in favor of sustainable mobility. City councils should not be swayed by a bunch of loudmouths on social media.

Walkable neighborhoods grow shoppers and pedestrians spend up to 65% more than drivers. Active mobility Person walking Bicycle provides a return of € 10 for every € 1 invested.

The cities with the highest quality of life are cities where public space has been recovered for walking or cycling and that is what we have to promote together with public transport, which is the only one 100% accessible.

Cities will have to change. It is necessary to review the low-density neighborhoods to avoid the schizophrenic life of being 40 km from work, 20 from school, 10 from the shopping center and spending part of our lives moving a ton of iron.

-! I have a new car but the city council does not give me free parking!
    - I have an air conditioner and I also want a free house where to install it!

Banning or severely restricting cars is seen as a solution to traffic congestion, a way to reduce emissions, and a tool for designing more livable cities.

That it is possible to walk in cities is not a truism, much less a fad, it is a health and sustainable emergency. What should surprise us is that we stopped doing it or that in many cities pedestrians are not taken into account.

Is breathing killing us? Yes, 70.000 scientific publications prove it: poor air quality is making us sick and killing us. Breathing polluted air has negative impacts on almost every organ in our body, including the brain.

Montreal will ban non-electric cars downtown, cut off parking around subway stations and plant half a million trees. Climate emergency plan, 2020-2030.
