The Marina Alta is above the regional average in selective waste collection

11 June 2019 - 00: 13

The region of the Marina Alta You are doing your homework on recycling. According to the general director of Climate Change and Environmental Quality, Joan Piquer, the region is above the regional average in selective waste collection, which includes glass, plastics and packaging.

These statements were made during the technical conference of consortiums and supra-municipal waste entities of the Valencian Community held in La Sala del Castle. Piquer recalled that the Marina Alta, together with the Marina Baixa and El Campello, belong to the Consorci Mare, depositing their waste at the El Campello plant. A plant that will receive an injection of 18 millions of euros for its modernization, allowing to renew the facilities of an "outdated" plant.

The next step in terms of selective collection will be the installation of the so-called fifth container, in which to deposit the organic waste. This is intended to achieve one of the objectives set by the European Union for 2020: that its inhabitants recycle or reuse the 50% of waste generated, and that in 2030 that recycling reaches 65%. A task that is based on a change of habits in homes, where it is currently recycled between an 20 and an 22% of waste.

In these new containers we will have to deposit the remains of food and biodegradable products, as they will be used to compost. The first containers will arrive in a few months from the Generalitat Valenciana, which thanks to a grant from the European Union has acquired 900 units that will distribute free of charge among the municipalities of the Comunitat. In addition, Dénia has also acquired more containers to begin to implant them in the city.

Another of the future actions to encourage recycling among citizens will be the bonus on garbage tickets to those who use the Ecoparc, an action that Piquer assured that "is under study" in the province of Alicante but which is expected to reach all management areas before 2022.
