The Marina Alta has 25.000 regulated tourist accommodation

The employer of the Marina Alta continues to be concerned about the application of the new Tourism Law of the Generalitat Valenciana, especially with regard to article 65 that regulates seasonal tourist rental housing.

Last Saturday, in the framework of the IV Fira Marina Alta de Ondara, Sonja Dietz, President of Business Cercle Marina Alta, together with the general secretary, Esteban Cobos; and the president of the Association of Tourist Rental Companies of the Province of Alicante, and member of the board of directors of CEDMA, Mariano Espinosa; They addressed this concern and reached a conclusion: that the law applies only to municipalities with more than 300.000 inhabitants.

From CEDMA say that the law is designed for large cities such as Valencia and not locations such as the Marina Alta in which there are not enough hotel beds to meet the demand and 85% of tourist accommodation are made in homes. As Mariano Espinosa pointed out, the Law is made for large cities, "Only Valencia has 5.000 homes of this type, when in the entire Marina Alta there are a total of 25.000 regulated accommodations".

It should be remembered that Article 65 requires municipalities to issue the town-planning compatibility report so that the houses can be used for tourism even if they already have the corresponding certificate of habitability. From CEDMA remember that this has paralyzed the registration of new properties in the Tourism Register of the Generalitat Valenciana "Because many of the municipalities of the Marina Alta do not have a procedure for processing the report, they do not have the figure of tourist use in their urban planning or simply do not have a General Plan in force".

For her part, Sonja Dietz added that the difficulties posed by Article 65 for the legalization of tourist rental housing will mean a return to the underground economy. "It has worked very hard to legalize the sector to pay the corresponding taxes and offer a security framework to tourists who rent homes and everything will go to the badge"He said.
