May 02 from 2013 - 00: 00

As planned, yesterday Labor Day, more than 200 people met in Glorieta of the Valencian Country of Dénia at 11 in the morning, to start the first demonstration that is held in the region of the Marina Alta to commemorate May Day.

The demonstration, convened by Intersindical Marina Alta, was based on the protest against cuts in social sectors such as Health, Education and Equality policies, among others.

With proclamations like "If you are jubilant, you will take the future of youth", "no more morts per l'atur" o "vixca the treballadora class" the protesters toured the Calle Marques de Campo until you reach the Plaza del Castell de Olimbroi, in front of the Red Cross, to concentrate and read a manifesto under the title Poguérem, Podem.

As two centuries ago

The person in charge of reading the manifesto, a member of the educational community of Pego, mentioned the conditions of the working class of two centuries ago and compared it with the current situation in which "The unemployment rate is unassuming, wages are in free fall, pensions and retirement itself are in danger and millions of people are evicted [...]".

After describing this context, the difficulty of the current situation was highlighted and an appeal was made to "Together, let's change it: Two centuries ago it was possible to get work situations changed thanks to the struggle of millions of workers. It was possible and today, you can", encouraged the manifesto.

The spokesman of Intersindical Marina Alta, Órcar Ramírez described "participation success" the demonstration and announced that they will reconvene another concentration in Dénia next year.

Rosa Giner Ortuño, Union Delegate of Intersindical Salud, took the opportunity to announce that "just yesterday, the eve of Labor Day, the Marina Health Hospital dismissed 5 workers: 3 doctors and 2 guards " and urged the Ministry of Health to "put a stop to this".

For her part, Marian Elices, Secretary of UGT, highlighted the work of the organization in Dénia, especially because, according to her, the organization will be "in any forum where citizens are attacked their rights".

This demonstration takes place in a context in which the Marina Alta registers unencouraging numbers with 17.000 unemployed and abuses in sectors such as Health and Education, in which a large number of benefits and services are being eliminated.
