Once the dirt that the passage of time had made a dent in the image of the Sang Santíssima, patron saint of Dénia, the carving has recovered its original color, the blood has shone again and three small tears have come to light on the right side of the face.
Size, dated in the year 1633, leaving Dénia for the first time last December to be restored and studied, and Saturday morning 28 March came home with the excitement of the parishioners, who received the top honors.
As explained by the director of the restoration work, Joserre Perezgil, said that they have been three months intense in which they have been able "enjoy, preserve and restore the image" in some works that have had four restorers.
During the works it has been shown that a size is made entirely of cypress mother has no external connections as nails, but "It is simply united and stuck, and this is 400 years ago".
Over the cracks showing the size, Perezgil said is the aging of the wood itself. The first work done was try to consolidate the polychrome figure and, after many tests, a special gel to go is located cleaning "400 years of dirt" generated by the environment, candles, incense or wax surrounding image continuously. Also, the director of restoration explained that "affection" of parishioners he has finished with polychrome in parts.
After its restoration, it has recovered carving small features that were lost as some small tears and lacerations not seen, especially at the back. Perezgil was delighted to have worked on this piece "so special" while safe for receiving help from the Augustinian sisters through their prayers.
The gratitude of the Augustinian Recollect sisters
Mother Superior of the convent of the Augustinians, Regina Cuquerella, spoke from the chapel and with her sisters, to acknowledge the work done in the piece. He acknowledged that the work has been delayed by community fear that the result was not expected, but were very satisfied with the current state of the carving.
They were the first to worship the piece, carried in the arms of members of the Brotherhood of Santissima Sang to prove their status and give him welcome.
