The region dressed in mourning with the death of the writer Rafael Chirbes

The world of culture of the region of the Marina Alta is in mourning after the death, last Saturday, of the writer Rafael Chirbes at the age of 66. A man who, although he was born in Tavernes de la Valldigna, lived in our region. Some of his years were spent in Las Rotas and then he chose the interior mountain, specifically he settled in Beniarbeig.

The setting of this town inspired him to create "Crematorium" criticizes a novel in which the author describes perfectly the evolution of municipalities such as Dénia or Xàbia and construction problems. A work which won the Critics Award in 2007. Another of his most recognized by critics novels is "The Shore", with which he won the National Narrative Prize in 2014.

The farewell of Rafael Chirbes took place yesterday, Sunday, in the Tanatorio Marina Alta of Dénia, there were, among others, Carmen Amoraga, writer and general director of culture of the Generalitat Valenciana and Albert Girona, regional secretary of the area of ​​culture.
