Under the title Fra Pere the Descalç, the Brotherhood of the Sang Santíssima Dénia wants to pay tribute to the figure of Pare Pere and his work. And he does it in the form of an opera entirely in Valencian that they intend to premiere in April 2019.
With music by Francesc Estévez and libretto by Lluís Fornés, the Sifoner, Fra Pere the descalç It is the first opera that arises in the region of the Marina Alta but with international projection. It is made up of two acts that narrate the life of the Franciscan faithfully following the existing biographical documentation.
In August of 2016 a part in the form of an oratory was premiered in the church of Jesus Pobre, with great success of critics and audiences. Now, more than two years after that premiere, support is sought to take it forward as an opera with a budget of 38.350 euros.
For this, they have requested help from public and private entities of all levels. The group Citizens in Les Corts has submitted an amendment for that amount to the budget of the Generalitat Valenciana de 2019. These days, the dianense deputy Toni Woodward negotiates with the rest of the parliamentary groups so that next Wednesday, December 12, support the cause in the commission of cultural budgets.
In the presentation of the project, the brotherhood states that "In the situation in which the figure of Pare Pere is currently located, it is the ideal time to conduct the project successfully, the staging".
