The President of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, has announced that next June will be the key month in the vaccination process against COVID-19.

This has been assured after participating in the meeting to monitor the vaccination process, which was also attended by the Vice President and Minister of Equality and Inclusive Policies, Mónica Oltra, and of Universal Health and Public Health, Ana Barceló, in addition to senior officials and technicians from the latter department.

The president has advanced that on June 17 the vaccination of the age group between 40 and 50 years will begin, and that previously, during the first fortnight of the month, all those over 50 years old will have received at least one doses or they will already be immunized.

During his speech, Ximo Puig highlighted that the Valencian Community has exceeded 2 million vaccines administered. 16% of the population already has the complete regimen and one in three Valencians (33%) has received at least one dose.

In this sense, he explained that the vaccination process is progressing "at a good pace", ensuring that in just one week the record figure of 290.000 inoculated doses has been reached.

He also pointed out that 267.000 doses have been received this week, and that a total of 433.000 are expected to arrive in the last two weeks of May, plus those distributed by Janssen, which are yet to be detailed.

The president also wanted to value the "excellent human treatment and professionalism" of the health workers who are vaccinating; the "efficient coordination" of all logistics; as well as the "massive confidence of the Valencian society" in the vaccination process that it has described as "safe, agile and efficient".

Protect the most vulnerable

The Head of the Consell explained that in 4 months, the vaccination of all people living in residences has already been completed, and everyone over 80 years of age has also been vaccinated.

In addition, it has ensured that 93% of the people included in the age group between 70 and 79 years have received at least one dose, and half of them are already fully immunized.

Regarding people over 60, the president has indicated that at the end of May they will all be immunized.

The president has ensured that the process followed has allowed a good part of the population that most concerned all of Valencian society to be protected. In this sense, he stated that "protecting the most vulnerable, and those who have cared for us all our lives, is what makes a decent family society like ours".

Finally, the president explained that the current incidence is 35 cases - unique in Spain and a reference in Europe - and that hospitals are at August levels, "thanks to the efforts of the whole of society, which has given a lesson in civility ", which enables a" progressive opening that leads us, finally, towards a summer full of hope ", he concluded
