14 December 2018 - 13: 32

The golfer José María Olazábal has attended La Sella Golf to supervise the transformation and updating of the route, the first one he did in 1990 in his role as designer.

After three decades, the social mass of the club and its users are different. As in the rest of the country, more and more women and young people are users of the La Sella Golf, which bets to catch up.

"Working again with Pepe Bathed thirty years after starting to design it, to modernize the facilities, is being an exciting experience", says José María Olazábal.

The objective of modernization is to facilitate the actions of those who come to play it on a daily basis. The works are focused on the creation of new exit tees for the ladies and on making a substantial change in the irrigation system, which will have a direct impact on improving the maintenance of the golf course throughout the year.

"Taking advantage of these works, some modifications are also going to be made that facilitate in some holes the game of the amateurs", comments José María Olazábal, who is sure "That these modifications will be appreciated. All the works take time, and that is why we must be patient because I am convinced that it will be worth it in the end".

José María Olazábal was in charge of both the design of the initial 18 holes and the extension made in 2010 to the current 27, which distinguish La Sella Golf as the largest field on the Costa Blanca.

The Basque golfer then put a lot of effort into the use of Mediterranean species that are easy to grow and adapt to the area in order to maximize respect for the environment where La Sella Golf is located, a first-rate ecological environment as it is located next to the Natural Park Montgó, a place of special biodiversity.

The supervision and updating of the trees of the last 9 holes, that being located next to the border of the Natural Park does not have a single house next to the route, is also part of the responsibilities assumed by José María Olazábal in this new phase of modernization of the Alicante travel.
