Significant increase in the number of proposals for Participatory Budgets

09 March 2021 - 14: 13

The proposal submission phase for Participatory Budgets 2022 ends with a large rise in participation. The fifth Participatory Budgets promoted by the Dénia City Council are fulfilling one of their main objectives: to involve citizens in decision-making to improve the city. Once the deadline for submitting proposals for this edition has ended, there has been a significant increase in participation, with more than 600 proposals received and a total of 435 people participating.

The proposals are varied, and the most repeated have to do with the construction or renovation of sidewalks, with the improvement of security in the accesses to educational centers, the paving of streets and bike lanes. There is also a lot of interest in providing parks and green areas with play facilities, exercise equipment, areas for dogs and circuits for runners and walkers, among other equipment.

This year, in addition, the child and adolescent population has been included to encourage their participation, following the recommendations of the Local Plan d'Infància i Adolescència. For this reason, information brochures and a letter to teachers were sent to schools inviting participation, and an excellent response has been achieved. More than 200 schoolchildren have submitted 386 proposals individually or by course, after discussing them in their classes. From the City Council of Dénia we want to especially thank the participation of the students of the IES Sorts de la Mar, the 2nd year automotive courses and the 3rd year of the IES Maria Ibars, the three CREAMA training programs (trade, boat support and maintenance of mountains) and 6th grade courses school Paidos.

The municipal technicians are currently studying all the ideas presented to assess their viability and group the repeated or similar proposals, to prepare the list of projects that will go to the popular vote as of April 14. The Councilor for Citizen Participation, Pepe Doménech, remember that for 2022 the amount allocated to Participatory Budgets is increased by 50.000 euros and is set at 350.000 euros.
