Imma Mengual turns the pediatric emergencies of the Hospital de la Marina Baixa into a circus

January 30 from 2018 - 09: 58

Imma Mengual, Dianense who works as a professor of Fine Arts at the Miguel Hernández University, has achieved the challenge of converting the pediatric emergency department of the Hospital de la Marina Baixa, in Villajoyosa, into a more human space in which the little ones forget who are hospitalized.

Together with the student María Laudes González, and in just four hours, they have created an authentic "Circus" in the room. Salt-bankers, jugglers, balancers, balloons and pennants decorate the walls, ceilings, boxes, the waiting room and the hallway.

"The circus" aims to introduce elements of relocation to create a closer environment and make it easier for children in the Pediatric Emergency Area, as well as that of family members and try to feel immersed in it. The purpose of this idea is to de-dramatize the medical environment and create spaces of distraction through image and art.

This project has been possible thanks to the financing of the City Council of Alfaz del Pí and has had the support of the pediatric emergency health personnel and the management of the Hospital Baixa de Villajoyosa, who see in this intervention an opportunity to convert the pediatric space in a fun space, surrounded by circus characters and covered with balloons that represent an improvement in the quality of life through the art (art therapy) of sick children, their families and health personnel.
