May 30 from 2014 - 07: 01

On the occasion of World No Snuff held on May 31, the Marina Health Hospital It announced the figures used as for patients with lung cancer.

Below average

According to the Head of Oncology at the Dénia Marina Salud Hospital, Dr. Joan Manel Gassent, in 2013 145 new cases of lung cancer were diagnosed in the Marina Alta. However, he assures, "mortality rates are below the average for the Valencian Community, thanks to the multidisciplinary work of pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, pathologists, radiotherapists and oncologists, who study each case in the Tumor Committee".

The consumption of snuff is a major health risk, so much so that in the latest study on mortality snuff in Spain states that in 2006 53.155 deaths attributable to smoking in individuals 35 and older were given, which meant the 14,7% (25,1% in males and females 3,4%) of all deaths.

It has been shown that tobacco use is "the main cause of preventable mortality," according to Marina Salud itself and, worldwide, kills 6 millions of people every year, of which more than 600.000 are passive smokers.
