Grimalt refuses to apply the tourist tax in Dénia but asks for help to withstand the impact of tourists

15 July 2022 - 12: 12

Yesterday, Les Corts approved the processing of the so-called "tourist tax" of the Valencian Community for overnight stays from 2024. However, it will be the municipalities that decide voluntarily if they will apply it, as has been done successfully in so many tourist towns in Catalonia and most EU countries.

Despite the fact that the processing of the fee has gone ahead thanks to the 51 votes of the three Botànic parties, including the PSPV, the mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, has already been reluctant to this tax despite the fact that this city is one of the most important tourist destinations in the Community, quadrupling its population in the weeks of high season.

"I want to make it clear that this City Council, for the moment, is not going to apply this tax." This is how resounding the mayor of Dénia was regarding what was approved in Les Corts. "We believe that right now is not the time to apply a tax." In addition, he has indicated that he requested a study on the impact of this tax and that apparently, for the time being, it has not been carried out.

Of course, the mayor has taken the opportunity to claim that tourist destinations should have "a line of aid to withstand the impact that tourism has on our cities."

So... if you live in Madrid, what taxes do you pay in Dénia...? And if it is a second home, then you count for little in the decisions.

  2. Nuria Romaguera Cuevas says:

It is better that they do not spend all our tax money throwing the poor bulls into the sea and in a gazillion parties to the delight of drunks and insane people. Clean more and spend money wisely and for the common good of all. And try to make children and young people more educated, the same way they get more happiness in the town.

I have paid tourist taxes in many countries and I have not stopped going for it, neither I nor anyone else. It is time for us to learn from other countries and stop quixotic, if that rate is charged throughout Spain there will be no comparisons, we cannot always be asking for subsidies and if we charge to cross the country on highways like in Switzerland, all the better. No one is going to stop traveling for an ecological fee.

    • Pillar says:

Do you think all the taxes we pay in Denia are few rates for what we receive? Where are the cinemas, theater, city cleaning or beaches, lighting and a long etc.?
As Nuria says before, fewer parties in bad taste and better treatment of citizens.
Do not forget, Mr. Mayor, that most of the income is left by tourists from Msdrid and other places.

The mayor is useless, and he knows it. A person without management capacity, let someone else come!!!

    • Claudio says:

Why does Denia have the dirtiest beach in the area? Why is El Raset beach so dirty? They don't have a way to clean it?

  5. Yo says:

    Tourist tax is a steal.
It's okay to invent taxes, what you have to do is spend less.
For example, the rise of some mayors in 25% of their salary, 28 million euros to subsidize the Valencian, 56 million to support a Valencian TV that does not even see God ete. etc. Only Catalonia has the revolutionary or tourist tax, which is why I don't go to Catalonia for Tourism.

Hundreds of apartments closed all year except in summer, but paying the IBI and other fees. And he talks about putting up with tourism… Without tourism, what would it be like on the Levantine coast?

  6. IgnacioG says:

On the one hand he loses money and on the other he asks for it. The money is in the Grimalt tourist tax.

    • Yo says:

      Tourist tax are theft.
      Enough to invent taxes.
As my grandfather used to say
      "To rob Sierra Morena"

      • John says:

The non-resident foreign resident expatriate community will react to mitigate the effects of the tax by moving to other communities where we are not punished like this for bringing our money here. It will not be profitable I assure you.
