21 July 2020 - 10: 37

Last December, the feat of Gorgui Lamine Sow, which he risked his life to save a neighbor from Dénia from the flames, starred in the headlines of all the media in the country. His heroic selfless act moved thousands of people who asked him to apply for Spanish nationality due to his irregular situation. Half a year later, the Ministry of Justice has made the decision to grant him Spanish nationality.

On the morning of December 6, a column of smoke coming from a house on Port Street set off alarms in the Baix la Mar neighborhood. It also caught the attention of Gorgui, who was engaged in street vending and was in that moment working near the place.

As she approached the burning house, she realized that a man from inside was asking for help. He did not think about it and climbed up to the first floor to get the owner out of the house, who due to his mobility problems was unable to get out on his own.

Just as quickly he acted, he left, and Álex, the rescued neighbor, could not even thank him until, after searching for him, he was able to thank him in person for the heroic act that saved his life.

Gorgui Lamine was also received days later by the mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, to congratulate him, also participating in the Local Police Day event where received the body's public congratulations. His feat led to the Ministry of Migration granting him a residence permit in January and now, after yesterday's publication in the BOE of the Justice decision, he can only wait for the arrival of his ID that accredits him as a Spanish citizen .
