February 02 from 2021 - 09: 43

The Mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, has announced this week that the Integrated Public Vocational Training Center where training cycles for the maritime fishing family will be taught, among others, will occupy a new building on port land, owned by the autonomous communities. Grimalt has indicated that it is working, together with the Ministry of Territory and Education, in the possible locations of the new center, baptized as Gent de mar; and has been able to anticipate what will be "A building very integrated into the port environment", which could begin to be built in the academic year 2022/2023 with funds from the Pla Edificant de la Generalitat Valenciana.

The project of the Integrated Public Vocational Training Center 'Gent de mar' has been developing since 2019 and has been taking shape in the successive work meetings that Grimalt and his councilors of the government team have held with the regional secretary of Education, Miguel Soler, and the general director of Vocational Training and Special Regime Education, Manuel Gomicia. From the beginning, the municipal representatives proposed the creation in Dénia of a center where studies related to the issues of the sea were taught, from the perspective of the merchant marine, fishing and also sport. For this, the different sectors involved have been consulted - the fishermen's associations of the region, companies in the fishing sector, educational institutes and the shipping company. Baleària, which operates from the port of Dénia- to know your suggestions and needs.

It is a project "Very important to us", has added the mayor, which links matters closely related to the city, such as the sea and also the hotel industry, tourism and cuisine. And it is that in the CIPFP Gent de mar it is planned to teach, in addition to the cycles of the maritime fishing family (Medium degree of maintenance and control of ship and boat machinery and Higher degree of organization of the maintenance of ship and boat machinery), four cycles of tourism and hospitality, which expand the current offer of the IES Maria Ibars, and another four of Commerce and marketing that will expand that of the IES Historian Chabás.

Grimalt wanted to highlight that the new center will also meet a demand that the Fishermen's Association of Dénia has been requesting for a long time, since it will include in its training offer the training courses that sailors must take and that they currently have to go to Alicante.

The cycles of the tourism and hospitality family will be centralized in the CdT Marina Alta, including the upper cycle of cooking that is currently taught at the IES Maria Ibars. In this institute, the Ministry of Education plans to implement, next year, the training cycle of the agri-food industry, a training commitment "very valiant" and necessary in the region, in the words of Grimalt.

For the Councilor for Education, Melani Ivars, the project of the new CIPFP Gent de Mar "It will multiply the options and possibilities of the students of Dénia and the region" and, together with the future university campus of Gastronomic Sciences-Center of International Excellence in Training and Gastronomic Innovation in Dénia, "Will transform the educational environment of the city". As indicated, the creation of the integrated center meets the dual objective of, on the one hand, expanding the educational offer of the municipality and the region and, on the other, "Will help boost the economy of our environment".

In another vein, Vicent Grimalt has reported that he is working with the general director of Vocational Training and Special Regime Teachings on the possibility of building a new conservatory in Dénia within the Pla Edificant.
