'Gasterra' makes Dénia the great international laboratory of Mediterranean cuisine

El Center of Gastronomy of the Mediterranean, one of the great bets of the University of Alicante, the City Council of Dénia, and the Valencian Agency of Tourism, is already a reality. This project, which seeks the professionalization of the gastronomy sector, will do so through the implementation of official degrees and master's degrees that will begin to be taught in the 2018 / 2019 course in Dénia.

This Monday afternoon, the room Jauja de Baleària Port hosted the presentation in society of Gasterra, an act that did not miss any actor from the society of the Marina Alta. This launch served to learn some details of the project, which understands gastronomy as the fundamental axis of the tourism industry in our territory.

National and international academic reference center

The director of relations with the society of the University of Alicante, Ana Laguna, stressed the importance of this center, which is born as a national and international academic reference of the Mediterranean gastronomy. And it does it in a city, Dénia, declared a Creative City of Gastronomy by UNESCO.

Laguna explained that these are multidisciplinary studies. A) Yes, Gasterra It is part of a strategy to support the University's research and teaching excellence, the promotion of knowledge transfer and gastronomic tourism development in the province of Alicante.

Objectives of Gasterra

Among other objectives, Gasterra seeks to bring together research teams, entrepreneurs and other interest groups, as well as concentrating resources and sufficient instrumental resources that allow the advancement of knowledge, development and innovation in the field of Gastronomic Sciences and Culinary Arts together with scientific research and the technological development of excellence.

Gasterra was born with the City Council of Dénia as the Valencian Agency of Tourism as partners that will support, among other activities, student mobility, scholarships for students; internationalization; stimulate new research projects in Mediterranean diet and gastronomy; aid for the promotion of training visits and the development of seminars, workshops and university extension courses in the field of gastronomy and the culinary arts.

Important step for the Creative City of Gastronomy

The Mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, he highlighted this center as "the heart of Valencian gastronomy", that goes beyond the cultural value. He also called it "lifeguard" of a sector "Basic and essential as is agriculture", basis of the recovery of the natural environment.

Grimalt considered this a "important step in the consolidation of the Creative City of Gastronomy project in one of its most important aspects, training", a project that, in 15 days, within the framework of the meeting of the Creative Cities of UNESCO, will be exhibited in Cracóvia. The mayor affirmed that Dénia has "deposited their hopes" in the "great laboratory of the Mediterranean diet that will be Gasterra".

Professionalization of the sector

For its part, the regional secretary of the Valencian Agència del Turisme, Francesc Colomer, stressed the importance of this center in the sense of "Knowing how to sell the best of our versions", affirming that Dénia "It is identity of what the Valencian Community wants to be".

The magnificent rector of the University of Alicante, Manuel Palomar, outlined the global challenges of the project, among which is the professionalization of the sector and the great opportunity it supposes for our reference area. Palomar spoke of a "key center for the development of gastronomy".
