Gasterra addresses the feeding of dependent people in their first gerontological days

El Mediterrani Gastronomy Center -Gasterra- celebrates these days in Dénia its I Jornadas Gerontológicas focused on treating quality and safety around food in dependent persons.

With these conferences, the aim is to provide training to the assistants to the dependency because they have better knowledge with which to assist the people dependent on the Marina Alta.

These days have the collaboration of CREAMA, the IES Pedreguer and the IES Josep Iborra de Benissa, the training institutions in the Marina Alta that currently provide training directly linked to the assistance to the dependency. As a result of this collaboration, more than 100 workers in the dependency sector and students have registered in this initiative.

The opening of the conference, held on Wednesday and Thursday at the Llebeig school, was given by Pep Bernabeu, Director of Gasterra, Alfonso Soler, president of the Gerontological Association of the Mediterranean and Eva Round, Councilor for employment of the City of Dénia.

During the first day an introduction to gerontology was made and food was discussed as a preventive element of pathologies linked to senescence and frailty. Francisco Más approached the feeding according to the type of patient's dependence and José Miguel Martínez spoke about the characteristics of the different forms of feeding. The day ended with the conclusions and the debate.

For the afternoon of Thursday there is scheduled a workshop on Maintenance Techniques of feeding devices, by Manuel Lillo; a talk about complications in the diet of dependents by Jorge Riquelme and the conclusions of this second day. The conference will close with a final debate by Alberto Plaza.
