02 July 2019 - 10: 24

The works of restoration of the altarpiece of La Santísima Sangre have been completed, which
They started the 5 in May and have lasted for five weeks. The completion of the project arrives in time for the celebration of the patron saint festivities that will begin this weekend.

The altarpiece, which is found in the church of the Convent of the Agustinian Sisters and on which the image of the Holy Blood rests, has a great symbolic, as well as religious and artistic, load. Over the course of five weeks, various treatments have been carried out that, while fully respecting the integrity of this cultural asset, have ensured its durability. For this, we have had a team of professionals who have worked to restore the hidden splendor of the passage of time.

The restoration work has been supervised by Professor Dr. Vicente Guerola Blay, deputy director of the pictorial-sculptural area of the Institute of Heritage Restoration of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). Guerola described the performance as very successful. The altarpiece was designed to be polychrome and, although its artistic quality is remarkable, the wood is not of high quality and needed this work for its conservation.

The parish community of Asunción, San Antonio and San Miguel, concerned about the survival of the altarpiece, has managed to collect the total cost of the work carried out. The funds for the performance come from the Charity Dinner held at 30 in June of 2018, raffles and different donations.
