Tramway works complete with the opening of the Metge Manuel Vallalta street crossing

August 02 from 2021 - 12: 59

Ferrocarrils Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has completed the tramway works that affected the intersection with Metge Manuel Vallalta street, as well as the intersections with the Pou de la Muntanya and Juan Chabás roundabouts. The affected area was opened to traffic last Friday, once the asphalting and signaling work had been completed.

The tramway works carried out by FGV, in coordination with the City Council of this town, have also made it possible to condition two new stops along the tram route that ends at the Dénia station, now without rail service, and which will enter in operation once the modernization works carried out on the whole of Line 9 of the TRAM d'Alacant (Benidorm-Dénia) have been completed.

With this action, it is achieved that Joan Fuster avenue is better integrated urbanistically, ending the division that the train supposed when cutting Dénia on its south side, by transforming the old railway level crossings into traffic light crossings

These works, which have been completed in recent months, affect some 1.220 meters and are included within the project for the renovation and conditioning of the track and infrastructure of the Gata de Gorgos - Dénia section. The new tramway route, whose works have been completed in this municipality, runs from Metge Manuel Vallalta street and is added to those already completed that reach the FGV station along Joan Fuster avenue.

Throughout the development of the action, close coordination has been maintained with the Dénia City Council, which has also planned a series of complementary actions, to carry out the future tramway of the urban environment of Dénia.

These actions basically correspond to helping the tram permeabilization, consisting of the traffic lights and urban adaptation of the different existing crossings.

The works are part of the investment plan planned for the modernization of Line 9 of the TRAM d'Alacant between Altea and Dénia. The Generalitat is executing different actions in this line in order to achieve its comprehensive renovation and modernization and to achieve quality standards comparable to the rest of the autonomous network in Alicante.

This action, like the rest that is carried out on this Line 9, is liable to be co-financed by the European Union through the Operational Program of the European Regional Development Fund "(Feder).

First phase

In a first phase prior to the one that has now been completed, the infrastructure conditioning action was developed in the section prior to the entrance to the FGV station, from Diana street along Joan Fuster avenue.

In this action, a tramway platform segregated from the parallel roads was fitted out, improving the accessibility and safety of the pedestrian crossings at this intersection. In turn, the archaeological intervention carried out has made it possible to preserve the wall of the medieval defensive system of the Raval del Fortí.

The same intervention also included the conditioning of the Dénia station, renovating the track beach and adapting the platforms to adapt them to the new dual diesel-electric rolling stock. At the same time, the station building was rehabilitated with the improvement of roof waterproofing, carpentry coatings, cleaning of facades and painting on the metal structure.

The actions of the first phase of tramway in the municipality of Dénia were included in the project for the conditioning of the Benidorm, Teulada and Gata de Gorgos stations, with an investment budget of 6.404.330 euros.

Well, that that ends with the division of Dénia on the south side, that is to say ... they have opened some wells and closed others, especially for vehicles, which in many cases have to go to the roundabout near the nautical club to access the other side of the ave ...
The most intelligent thing would have been to eliminate the road from this avenue and instead have created a great promenade.
The station should have moved below La Pedrera and used mini buses for trips to the center.
By the way, we would also have saved a million €….
