Meditation space: a place to reflect on the loss of loved ones in the Pedreguer cemetery

19 September 2022 - 14: 11

Located in the municipal cemetery of Pedreguer, we find this meditation space carried out by QB architects: a place that invites reflection and that is perfect to say goodbye to your loved ones.

With the creation of this work, the accesses are reorganized and the extension of this cemetery is ordered. It is a space that allows to celebrate nondenominational and undirected ceremonies. With this project, the aim was to provide users with a secluded place in which to reflect on their loss and say goodbye to their family and friends.

Landscape

This work arises from the point of confluence between the earthly universe and the beyond. Inspired by the myth of Charon, QB architects decides to surround the space with a sheet of water that represents the transit between the two worlds.

The structure rises with a couple of steps to symbolize how the loved ones of the deceased, through memories and meditations in their farewells, accompany them in the boat to the other side of the river.

Object

The space is made up of two pieces in the shape of a "U" that are interrelated, to continue with the interpretation between the earthly and the metaphysical.

The materials of each piece are totally differentiated, with the intention of endowing them with the meaning of each world they symbolize: the land It is hard and heavy and sky it is vaporous and light. The union of both spaces and how they are affected by weather conditions, give rise to a crossroads environment that has always wanted to be valued.

Skin

In this work, each of his worlds has its own skin.

in a horizontal plane, we have the reference to the earthly. To represent it, at QB architects they chose a heavy corten steel structure, which they lightened with perforations, allowing light to pass through and creating a tiny constellation environment around mourners.

the second piece, vertically, is lighter, and allows to visualize the niches of the cemetery, the definitive symbol of our earthly nature, but from a subtle point of view, appeasing, thanks to the stainless steel mesh.
