Eric Sos was the absolute winner of the Chess 'Ciudad de Dénia' International Open

More than 80 players gathered at the International Open "City of Dénia", as a reason for the festivities of the town. The participants were divided into Absolute tournament and Sub 16, with the boards mounted on the street Marques de Campo, an excellent stage to accommodate the many participants from various points of the Valencian Community, Madrid, Castilla León, I have even fans of this sport that has caught them vacationing in this area and have been encouraged to participate being from other countries such as Sweden. Something great because it means that the language of chess is universal and can be understood anywhere in the world.

Seven rounds were played at 7 minutes per player plus an increase of 3 seconds for each play made. Two categories were established: absolute and infantile, reaching a good participation in both. For the good development of the tournament, it counted on the Autonomic referees: Antoni Bertomeu and Francisco Morató.

Absolute category

In the absolute category 63 players met, who after the 7 rounds won the International Master, Eric Sos, player of Paterna. Getting six and a half points out of the seven possible. In second place was also the International Master, Rufino Camarena (Xeraco), completing the podium of the International Master, Slobodan Kovacevic (Benimodo).

Highlight Antonio Aguado (Xàbia) as the best in the stretch up to 2000, Javier Sánchez (Dénia) as best local player and Luis Vallalta (Dénia) as the best local player. Great tournament of the young Antoni Bertomeu (Benissa) together with Marc and Carles Gregori, both brothers are Oliva players and despite their youth they have shown great qualities by offering great games and games.

The twenty-nine registered children developed a tough fight to get to know the winner of the tournament, which until the last game could not be known. To know the champion of the tournament had to wait for the outcome in the last round of the tournament among the first classified so far, finally, José Domenech Briz (Alberic) has been proclaimed winner with a half point advantage over the second classified. The winners sub 8 were; Champion, Carlos Sena, followed by Ester Catalina. In the sub category 10 were; Champion was Lucas Deusa (Alacuas), followed by Mateo Sena (Alacuas) and thirdly Ulises Valenzuela (Dénia).

In the 12 sub category, the winner was Pablo Cayon (Valencia), followed by Javier Herrero (Gambito-Benimaclet) and Àngel Pérez Roig (Xàbia). In the sub category 14, the winner was José Domenech Briz (Alberic), in second Victoria Ermishina (Russia) and in third position Alejandro Yuste (Alacuas). In the 16 sub category, the winner was Samuel Staneke (Calp).

To close the event was carried out the delivery of prizes, act that was in charge of the council of holidays Óscar Mengual and the President of the Castell de Dènia Chess Club, Vicente Costa. Both thanked the assistance to all participants in this event that has a long history and tradition in the municipality, congratulating the winners and thanked the assistance of both parents of children and the general public.

Thanks to the support that year after year offer the players, the Department of Festivals and sponsors, this tournament is being consolidated, while the commitment of the municipal corporation to continue with this event for many more years was noted.
