The new garbage contract begins with which «Dénia will be clean 24 hours a day»

01 July 2022 - 14: 18

This morning what will be Dénia's new cleaning fleet was presented to the media, taking the opportunity to also tell about the news of the service that starts today, again by Urbaser. And so it will be for the next decade, which is the term of the contract that starts on July 1.

A contract of this nature, with a value of almost 70 million euros, usually arouses many expectations, especially when the issue of cleaning tends to generate controversy in cities in the face of tourist seasons. However, as the mayor pointed out, Vicent Grimalt, during the press conference, changing things does not depend only on those who clean, but also on those who dirty.

But what will change with this new contract? “The cleaning service is going to increase a lot”, affirmed the councilor of the area, Maite Pérez Conejero, emphasizing that «Dénia is going to be clean 24 hours a day».

The big news

The next question jumps almost unintentionally: how will they do it? The list of novelties, certainly, is extensive. The containers will be modified, there will be new waste to work with, also greater waste collection, adapting the schedule to the particularities of the catering establishments in some areas, a new brushcutter, an information office, environmental educators...

And not only that, but the number of workers has been increased to a hundred (before they were about 70), increasing to 120 in high season. Also striking is the new fleet of vehicles made up almost entirely of vehicles powered by electricity or gas.

They also announce that in about 4 months the door-to-door garbage collection service will start in Les Roques, Baix la Mar, La Xara and Jesús Pobre, one of the most striking and requested novelties.

Results that require the help of neighbors

However, it will be of little use if there is no citizen collaboration, as Urbaser insisted. "While a sweeper picks up bags, he is not sweeping," he indicated in reference to the garbage that is taken out at the wrong time and piled up outside the containers. In this line, from the City Council they pointed out that there was no longer an excuse because everyone knows when they have to take the bags out.

The Denia City Council is shameful, there is no cleaning of the streets, where I live they started cleaning for the first time in 20 years but after a month this service is stopped and now after 4 weeks without cleaning the streets are dirty as before, Denia I went and today is dirty. I pay €1300 of annual IBI, I have no right, in a claim a councilor has replied that Denia has other priorities, what a shame. Do your job that Denia is a clean city starting tomorrow, because today is disastrous.

We have had containers destroyed at the entrance to Coll de Pous since before 2014, no one has deigned to change or repair them, the containers are exactly 1km from my house, they have raised the receipt €20 for some services that do not even arrive. Third-worlders, on the Montgo we have been simply abandoned forever. It's just that the majority of us don't vote here, you can call “ALL” the politicians of this beautiful city in many ways and none of them would be pleasant to hear. (Neither sewage that we are paying for, nor a sad lamppost, nor containers)

70 million euros how much is pesetas? take it out and you will see

Before in 1970 when they paid 150.000 pesetas of mason's salary at the time that Bartolo Serrano did the cleaning probably for less than 30.000.000 a year and cleaned it the same as now or cleaner now 70 that include electric trucks 000.000 people and their salaries at what amount per month at 130 euros or 1000? Take accounts and until you reach one Billion one hundred counts five million... what happens with the transparency accounts why don't they publish them to see what that billion is spent on... Or you are not interested in exposing this transparency if you have clean hands... Something not right in the year 2000. And today there is too much tax and little salary... Let's see if someone can clarify this for me fins l Altra

Let's see if now they remove, once and for all, the mattress, furniture and rubbish that some good citizen has deposited next to the green waste container located in Camí Pou de la Muntanya, an attitude that is quite frequent.
We hope that with the new concession, said green waste container will also be removed from this location, due to the continuous inconvenience due to noise, dirt, fire risk, unsanitary conditions and lack of parking that it causes.
The complaints of the neighbors are continuous and the action and attention of the city council null.

Normally the new contract includes garbage collection in the Denia part of Monte Pego, which today does not have garbage containers. It would be part of the poor Jesus route. Thanks for checking and confirming.

First of all a big round of applause for all the commentators.
We are all right, how embarrassing today, with what we all pay, and it doesn't show where does that money go?
It is July 4th and there is no right that the beaches, especially the Marinas, are so neglected, the algae this year are not collected? The lavapies is that you can not send water to them, the wooden guides, you can not put them either?
Where are the people of this TOWN HALL? Is that why we vote for you? »NO SHAME»

  6. Pepa says:

I don't believe half of what the article says. The organic containers on San José Street have not changed their carpets for years, totally impregnated with bad odors that rise to the houses, despite cleaning with a pressure hose. Every time one of them closes, it makes a thunderous noise and throughout the day, the sometimes null civility of the people, they leave the bags outside. The worst is coming now… Ecological Denia?? When the surrounding restaurants, Calle Loreto, etc., close, some of them deposit their own in the containers. The glass ones...
ale, all glass, containers and organic all together. Why recycle? What nonsense right? Yes, the slogan of «Denia recycles» is very good, it is a result, nothing more. The planet… What difference does it make? Finally, at any time of the day, the plastic and cardboard containers in the roundabout are overflowing and we have to leave the bags outside.

  7. Marie says:

Litter is a huge problem in Denia, not fixed by installing new bins that aren't used by many of the public. Some sort of clean up campaign is needed.

  8. Carmen says:

We hope that it is not only limited to the usual areas and that all streets have the service. We all pay and have assumed the increase and not only the residents. Those of us who work part-time demand fewer services and we also want to see new containers, cleanliness around them and cleared streets. Take a walk along Carrer Bot and adjacent streets sometime.

  9. Mamalu Otero says:

With what we pay they can do wonders, they tell things as if the money came from heaven, we citizens pay it, they should thank us, start the articles and speeches saying thanks to what the residents of Denia pay we have been able to blablabla...

    • Pepa says:

Totally agree Mamalú, it seems that citizens use the services for free, so… What is there to thank us for anything? Of course all the medals for politicians. Outrageous!!

      • bandit pass says:

Years ago, Bartolomé Serrano did the same effective service and they charged I think 25 million tabs or it didn't even reach two hundred thousand euros. And a bricklayer's salary earned 150.000 pts, that is, a thousand euros and today 70 million euros and if you convert it into pesetas it gives me 1 billion hundred science and five million pesetas and a salary is still a thousand euros. It seems to me that something is not right and what do you think… Is it that no one notices?

  10. Joseph says:

Gehört Die Marchioness auch dazu. Oder bleibt es wie es ist?

    • Carmen says:

And the cleaning of the beaches for when? Las Marinas does not seem to exist. Environmental Educators? That they have clean beaches as they do in olaya Gandía
