El Garbí Dénia got his first victory of the second phase of the 1ª Autonomica league championship by defeating CB Santa Pola by 36 to 35. A very high score that shows that it was a shock where the attacks clearly exceeded the defensive systems imposed by each of the teams.
With a good atmosphere in the stands was played a game where the dianenses knew what was played. All the players were very motivated and wanted to give their loyal fans a victory.
The Dianenses came out with their usual defense very deep, but before a rival who handled with great fluidity his attack scarcely put the Santapoleros in trouble when attacking.
Meanwhile, the visitors traced the Dianense defense and also had many problems to stop the game of local attack. The match became an exchange of goals, which benefited the visitors who were the ones who went ahead on the scoreboard.
It was in the final stretch of the first half, when the Dianense coach, David Salanova, ordered the defensive change to 6 - 0 and this slowed the visitor's effectiveness. The locals, very precise in the game of second line, dismantled the rival defense and this allowed them to go to the break with the advantage of an 18 goal to 17.
In the second half, the young Gabi came in to defend the local goal and was key to the triumph of his team. As happened in the first half, it was the visitors who, after drawing the game, put themselves ahead on the scoreboard, although their advantage never exceeded two goals.
The minutes went by and the fatigue was felt in the dianenses, as they barely rolled the bench. All this before an opponent that had a greater depth. The goals from the ends complicated the local defense much, whereas in attack, Salanova took the responsibility well seconded by Pedro García and the rest of players.
It was entered in the final straight of the match with the match matched, any mistake ruined the work done until then. In the last Dianense attack the locals scored, and with 40 seconds left, the visitors asked for time-out to prepare their attacking play.
The good local defense caused a bad throwing of the team of Santa Pola and the rejection of the goal Gabi ended up in the hands of a teammate, with what the referee signaled the end of the game. The score from 36 to 35 was reached at the end of regulation time with a local crowd that exploded with joy in the stands.
Note that, despite the intensity that was in the game throughout the game, in the end reigned maximum sportsmanship and both formations were dismissed with a big ovation in appreciation of the game offered on the track.
