La Sella Golf today held a tournament for the retirement of Paco García, who has been one of its fundamental pillars since the doors of the field were opened, in 1990. With Paco, La Sella has experienced all possible circumstances, from the harshest crises and cold drops, to the European Cup of golf for 4 years, in which the course was presented in an enviable state. Four directors have supervised Paco, from his beloved Juan de la Cuadra, to the current one, Carlos García, who "thanks for so many years of dedication and bids farewell to what is and will be his home to enjoy his well-deserved retirement."
Paco García is from Granada by birth, but lives in Xàbia since I was young. During all these years he has been the responsible Head greenkeeper, always aware of the constant transformation and updating of the course, even more so with the updating of the facilities until the complete remodeling carried out after the entry of the Anpora Group in 2018.
As a sign of gratitude for his incessant work, the company has decided to appoint Paco García as an honorary member, highlighting his 33 years of absolute dedication to La Sella Golf, but also the joy he exudes and the affection of the club members and of all their peers. In this sense, Luis Iglesias, President of the Council, presented Paco with a plaque confirming this.
After Paco's farewell, Jimena Blanco from Salamanca, an Agricultural Technical Engineer graduated as greenkeeper from the EADE of Malaga, takes over as head greenkeeper.
Jimena has worked for the Spanish Golf Federation on construction and maintenance tasks for the golf course and preparing for the Spanish Open, as well as for the Old Collier Golf Club in Florida, USA. Her experience is complemented at La Torre Golf Resort (Murcia), Lo Romero Golf (Alicante), Novogreen Turf Natural, where she worked as construction manager, and head greenkeeper at Altaona Golf (Murcia).
