The Moors and Christians of Dénia culminated their great days with the gala parade on August 15. A long-awaited day, since this year they were 40 years old and it was the first as a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest. Although the great day was clouded with the images of one of the participants of the "Esquadra del Mig", formed entirely by the Mayorales de Sant Roc, according to the FEMMICC (Federation of Moors and Christians of Dénia) in a recent statement.
The organization has explained that this squad participates in the parade although on behalf of the Brotherhood of Sant Roc, which is in charge of organizing the festive acts of said group during the August festivities. Due to the importance of the Moors and Christians festival in 2022, the brotherhood was invited to participate in the parade. "Paying their corresponding music band and parade costume, as signs of twinning and support for this association," they add from the Federation.
The FEMMICC has ensured that the squad was not made up of festeros from the Moors and Christians of Dénia, but by the Mayorales and their guests. One of these guests has been the protagonist of the images that, unfortunately, has tarnished a parade that was at all times up to expectations.
The impact of the viral “moment”
For this reason, the Mayoral Mayor has recently submitted his resignation, since the person in the video was a guest of his. Finally, the main position of the brotherhood has apologized in a statement, accepted by the FEMMICC, and has assured that they will not parade through the streets of Dénia again.
To settle the matter, the Federation "reserves to take appropriate measures regarding its relationship with them, once the consequences of these acts have been evaluated," they point out. This has been an "exceptional mishap" that has gone viral on social networks, for which the FEMMICC asks for respect so that it does not "tarnish what could truly be seen during that day: an exceptional Gala Parade with incredible Captaincies and filaes delivered to a party that every year welcomes more partygoers and visitors».
