The Dénia Women's Basketball Senior goes to the quarterfinals

May 02 from 2022 - 13: 24

El Senior Male DBC SUMA managed to mathematically save the 1st National category by beating CB Marcelina Benifaió (88-71) in Joan Fuster, playing a very complete match.

The team took advantage of its second opportunity to reach the goal when there are still two days left to play. Now he will look for the best possible final classification, in the year of his consolidation at this demanding level that is the prelude to national competitions.

The two teams started very successful in attack. The defensive adjustments ordered by Bernardo Sanz gave us a lead of ten points at the end of the first quarter, which we later managed throughout the match.

After the break came the best minutes of the Valencians who compressed the scoreboard reaching even it. The reaction of our team was immediate and in the last minutes of the third quarter and at the beginning of the last, they put the direct distance until deciding the match, thus avoiding possible problems.

Nacho Ots and the brothers Arturo and Paolo Adolphi made an effort to be with the team despite still recovering from their injuries, on a day when Kevin Piera was out for work reasons. We regret Vicent Puigcerver's injury throughout the game and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Despite all the problems, the team won this important victory, consolidating its place in the category, and they also did it by playing very good basketball, which was applauded by a crowd that has been another of the fundamental pieces this year in order to reach the team goals.

Senior Female Preferred

The Preferred Senior Women's team passed the round of XNUMX tie, the first they had to face in the fight for the title of the category, by winning the two games played over the weekend against the girls from Vila Real BC.

On Saturday the team traveled to Castellón to start a series that was going to be played over the weekend, in which they had home court advantage.

In a game that was not easy, they ended up beating the locals with a greater difference than what was experienced on the pitch (47-64), taking an important step to advance to the next round.

We were not comfortable in the first part. Their strong defense led us to lose balls and it didn't make it easy for us to build our offensive game.

However, after the break we found the key to overcome their pressure and we were able to play much more fluidly. Increasing our intensity on defense allowed us to link up quick counter-attacks and thus managed to have a small favorable rent.

Already in the last period, seeing themselves outmatched, the locals lowered their arms somewhat, a circumstance that we took advantage of to open more distance and practically sentence the tie, although we knew that the next day we would have to score again at a high level to beat them again.

DBC Senior Female

The second leg was a carbon copy of the first, DBC Senior Women had to put all five senses on the court to defeat a good Vila Real (56-39).

Again in the first part our rivals made things very difficult for us, forcing us to concentrate as much as possible to minimize mistakes. Their lack of success in the closing stages of the second period prevented them from going to the locker room with an advantage at the end of the first half.

It would again be a great third period that would lay the foundations for this second victory in the tie for the Juan Luis Pérez.

Much stronger in defence, they cut off the visitors' scoring while they improved their effectiveness in attack, gradually increasing the differences until they closed the game again with a comfortable difference.

The team advances to the next round and will face CDSC Godella in the quarterfinals next weekend, once again with home court advantage, so they will travel to Valencia on Saturday and host their rivals at Joan Fuster on Sunday.

Senior Male Preferred

The Preferential Senior Men's team saved the category on the last day of the championship by beating Alginet in Denia (64-63) and Oliva was defeated on the Jesuitas Valencia court, a result on which we depended to achieve this valuable objective.

Alginet proved to be an excellent team. Their physical strength and the high percentage of success achieved from beyond the 6'75 meter line, always kept them in the match despite all the intensity we put on the field, forced as we were to defeat them.

The party always transited in the maximum equality. As the stopwatch progressed, it was perceived that his end would be agonizing, precisely the scenario that we did not want to reach as we had all the pressure for the result on us.

However, this time the luck that has eluded us so many times during the season, allied with us twice.

After the Valencians cut our advantage to one point with a minute to play, neither team added more baskets in the opposite rim, closing the game with a hard-fought but essential victory to achieve the goal of permanence.

Our team were very intelligent at the end of the match, making the right decisions in all the decisions made to maintain their advantage.

The team celebrated the triumph in a restrained way, since the match between Jesuitas and Oliva had started an hour after ours.

When the result was finally known, we were able to release all the accumulated tension and celebrate with great joy the success achieved.

It has not been easy at all in a year where injuries have been the protagonists, always limiting our abilities in our debut in a new category that has been very demanding for us.

The game also meant the farewell of Fran Fornés Leal, who had informed the team of his intention to hang up his boots after this match.

A player trained in our School, he has been part of our teams uninterruptedly since 2007, passing through each and every one of the categories, always with great performance.

He has been a fundamental piece of the Preferred Senior to whom he has given consistency and identity on and off the court for many years. Without a doubt, a very important player who we will miss a lot, but to whom we wish all the best in the projects that he will undertake from now on.

Preferred Junior Male

The Preferred Junior Men's team said goodbye to the season with two difficult trips that they also faced with a very reduced staff due to injuries and academic and family commitments.

The first of them was disputed Saturday in Genovés (106-49) where the locals penalized us for a hesitant start to the match, gaining an important advantage that was impossible to reverse later.

Rubén Velázquez's team got into dynamics knowing how to weather the storm, and in the last period they improved their performance finishing the match playing very good minutes, which at least made us leave the pavilion with our heads held high and aware of everything we had failed to try not to repeat it.

On Sunday the Junior Men's team moved to Sueca (84-58) to close their participation in the official competition of the season in the Preferred category.

With the lesson learned from the previous day, this time we started the game very seriously and despite the fact that we had only eight players to face the match, we kept the score even until the break.

In the third period, the load of personal fouls limited our rotation even more, which was very well used by the Valencians to escape on the scoreboard as a result of the full-court pressure with which they defended us at that moment of weakness.

In the fourth quarter we regained our momentum and began to regularly produce baskets on his rim again, but it was too late to dream of recovering lost ground.

Last game of the season that closes a course of great progression for a team that last summer had more doubts than realities on the table.

The eleven boys who finish the season have taken a huge step forward during the intervening months. They have achieved the main objective, which was to preserve the category in a year in which it was especially difficult to achieve it when the descent of four teams to the 1st Zonal category was approved in the last assembly.

All of them, those who will continue to be Juniors next year and those who will become seniors, have a lot of basketball ahead of them, hopefully we can share it with them for many years.
