19 October 2016 - 17: 16

Students of Special Education Center Raquel Payà are currently attending school until 21 years. From that moment it begins a new and difficult time for them and their families, since the lack of a professional title is complicated to access the labor market and achieve the desired autonomy and inclusion in society.

That is why from the center are betting on a new training model, which involves internships during their school period and create a new module professional certification that allows students to continue their specialized studies center to 24 years.

To start implementing this new model, this year three of its students will improve their gardening skills thanks to an agreement reached with the FUNDEM foundation, responsible for the management of the Jardí de l'Albarda, in Pedreguer. From next Wednesday, October 26, and every week throughout the course, Ximo Sala, José Luis Martínez and Xavi Bañuls will go to work for half a day with the gardeners of the place, to know the work they do and improve their capabilities in the world of gardening.

As explained by the representative of FUNDEM, Enrique Montoliu, this craft is ideal for students, since "Nature helps them overcome their difficulties". Thanks to the agreement reached between FUNDEM and school Raquel Payà both parties will be favored, since students learn a trade and the garden will benefit from their skills and love for nature.

As part of the experience, and to foster student autonomy, all of them will move to the garden by bicycle, accompanied by her guardian, through a route that has been previously prepared by driver education agent Manuel Moreno six kilometers it takes 42 minutes to travel, as Ximo said.

The three students said it is "an honor" work for FUNDEM and Mother Earth in this project they undertake full of hope. Rosanna Bas, professor of the selected students, spoke of the importance of this agreement for the employment of these guys, that helps make this a reality.

Concierge module

Another of the actions that the center is going to implement in order to professionally train its students is the implementation of a concierge module for students from 21 to 24 years. According to the director of the center, Miquel Ivars, the intention of the management team is to implement it from next year. And for this they will be based on the experience of a Finnish center that has already activated it, as far as the Ivars itself will go to see firsthand how it works thanks to the Erasmus + program.

This year, the center has approved the entire application so that center professionals participate in seven mobilities to special education centers in European countries to attend specific training or as observers of programs. In this case, the visit of the director of the center to Finland is part of the Job Shadowing program, consisting of a period of observation.

The rest of mobilities will be made or have already made the UK, where three teachers attended a training program two weeks this summer.
